We all know that God will admit innocent souls straight to heaven - which is the dream of every true believer. And as a good Christian you will have had your child christened and accepted into the faith. So wouldn't the best thing for them be for them to be killed before there is any risk of anyone corrupting their soul? To ensure they get to heaven? And this would apply to the children of your friends and family too.
And what of your soul? Well obviously you can seek forgiveness - for what you would be doing would be motivated by heavenly reasons after all, so God would probably forgive you. But even if he didn't, isn't it worth risking your soul if you can guarantee all those children get into heaven and ensuring their souls are saved?

But even if he didn't, isn't it worth risking your soul if you can guarantee all those children get into heaven and ensuring their souls are saved? How about a serious answer, albeit from an atheist? Clearly I don't believe in a god or afterlife, but I purposely never had children to begin with. I grew up in a dysfunctional home, because my mother grew up in an abusive home. One of her brothers - my uncle - decided that he would never marry or have children because he saw, in himself, the potential to be abusive also. My mother's other four siblings all married and had children, and of those children, three committed suicide; two were brother and sister. The original abusive environment was handed down like a bad legacy. While I wasn't consciously aware of the psychological reasons for all of this, I did decide, early on, not to have children of my own. I didn't want them to be exposed to my mother. My childhood was no picnic in the park, why would I want innocent children to be exposed to her? My Dad would have been a great grandpa, but my mother was toxic. Had they divorced, I could have gone "no contact" with her but stayed close to my Dad, but he hung in there because in his Christian sect, people didn't divorce. I did marry, to a man with a similar background. He had two sons from a previous marriage, and wished he hadn't. We never even considered having any of our own. His ex and kids lived far away, so there was little contact other than the monthly child support check; he did take financial responsibility and never complained, actually paid support until each son turned 21. But he knew they were better off without much personal involvement with him. He knew he should not have been a father. So, if I was a Christian, I could say that my children's innocent souls were spared, and perhaps went to people who were good parents. Or perhaps they were still floating about in the Hall of Souls, waiting to be claimed. But I'm not a Christian.

I really don't know, as I've never seen it. Got to admit it's a highly original concept though.

My answer, if I were a Christian: I have serious doubts that even an indulgent and forgiving God would forgive me for trying to "beat the system" that way. And no, it's not worth risking my soul to guarantee my child's eternity. I'm responsible for my child's life as he grows, but his soul must (as for each of us) be his own responsibility.

Opie is proud of his new thread (left). Opie's thread has melted down (right). I don't spend all (even much) of my spare time on this board *ahem* unlike some. I don't need the attention or validation from it. If people like or ignore what I post it really doesn't matter to me. I have a rich and fulfilling life outside of this. I'm not entirely sure everyone else can say that.

But even if he didn't, isn't it worth risking your soul if you can guarantee all those children get into heaven and ensuring their souls are saved? Are children not born with original sin according to the doctrine? So even though they are christened, they still have to atone for the stain of the original sin??
I am pretty sure killing kids is naughty in the eyes of the lord as well, so it would send the parent to hell, but then I suppose you could argue going to hell to ensure that your kids get to heaven is a trade parents might be happy to make.
I guess those are the standard badly thought out answers, mine is that I believe in a good God, if there is a piece of doctrine that has God being bad (liek thinking killing your children is bad) then either the doctrine is bad theology (which of course comes from humans not God) or God is not good. I always err on the side of God is good.
I would answer with my purpose of life statement, if there is an afterlife, then surely Gods purpose for us is to experience this material life and maybe even learn from it, if you kill your kids you take that oppurtunity away from them.
(no idea if this has all been said before, I could not be bothered wading through the chaff)
