I could not do this. I've been at a friend's bedside when he passed away, so it's not death per se that disturbs me.
But the nature of capital punishment repels me, and reading accounts of the villagers coming down to the square to witness a hanging or a beheading or some such grisly act makes my blood run cold. I doubt that I'd ever be able to sleep through the night again.
I'm watching "The Wicked Lady" right now. There's a hanging scene. That's what made me think of it. Thank god this is a comedy! Faye Dunaway is hilariously over the top!
Edit. The guy in the movie just said that the hanging victim (played by Alan Bates, from the looks) may have escaped from the noose! Let's hope so!

I would if it was an evil baby killer that I feel deserves it

I would if it was an evil baby killer that I feel deserves it I've probably changed a bit in my middle years regarding the topic, but while there are some killers for whom it's really hard to feel remorse (e.g., John Wayne Gacy and Albert Fish), I still feel sad for what might have been.

You're more tender hearted. There have been "parents" and boyfriends who torture little kids until they die. They will even rape an infant I would probably cheer at their execution

And this is specifically because he enjoyed his deeds so much and then wrote that awful letter to the parents of Grace Budd. I might have been happy to hear he had died. (But he was such a freak, over the years he'd stuck unknown number of pins into his scrotum, that, apparently, the electric chair short circuited.) Even picturing this horror show, I'd have a hard time watching his life being taken away. Somewhat on the same topic, I have seen jurors (on YouTube) who, having given the sentence of death, can be sobbing. Ugggghhh... my hearts go out to them. I wonder if they imagined it was going to be this painful? That could mess you up!

if they had killed a family member. otherwise no. just some random killer? no. I have no desire to see that Wow. I suppose, now that you've put a bit of a spin on it, I might feel I should attend the horrible thing out of love and respect for my deceased loved one. And to get some sense of closure. Though I'd still be bawling my head off!

I voted for "Other" with certain IMDB posters in mind, and I doubt that these posters would decline to see it I were the one executed.

My reason for selecting "other," is that the question doesn't address the reason for attending.
I'm wholly opposed to the death penalty, and would never attend for any manner of viewing purpose, or means of support. However, I live a little more than 1/2 hour from San Quentin, and I did attend a quiet/peaceful protest vigil, in the early 90's, on a day of execution.

I wasn't thinking about a peaceful protest when I did the OP. What you said was interesting, but with the word "public" I was thinking of the old days where everybody got the day off and the whole family packed a lunch. Brrrrr.... I have the mindset (I guess) to have done what you did, as for as protesting peacefully. But that's not what's in my mind's eye when I think of "public execution". I'm talking about where you actually witness the person's physical death. I'm not even sure if they allow for that kind of thing in American any more. Of course, I did see "dead man walking",with the nuns and the clerics trying to provide some ultimate ablution for the final victim.

In California, if you're sentenced to death, you don't get executed because of a moratorium on the death penalty

I am not against death penalty however I am not a person who enjoys seeing a crowd with anger/revenge in their mind so I may not like to attend public execution. That said you never know how a person (including myself) may behave in exceptional circumstances.

Its strange to think that in the past public exaction was viewed as a fun day out for the family.
But no i would not go to see a public exaction.
