What a sad story. Poor little guy. He had such a cute smile. So evil to treat a sweet little boy like that. Monsters

I'll reiterate what's already been said and say if it was personal I'd attend in a heartbeat.
If the SOB that killed my folks had been executed I'd have volunteered to be on the front lines to do whatever needed to be done.

Why did you make your grandparents about the context? That seems a bit self-absorbed gamey. Are you suggesting that those in the image just took a casual Sunday drive out to look at the "Strange Fruit" hanging from the trees? And yes, some look like it is the most casual thing in the world, or if it was something of fascination, then they were there to witness something they really wanted to see. Rednecks or not, it appears all those that were captured in that shot, have incriminated themselves regarding the social milieu. They don't exactly all look like authority, (or they were acting mandated authority), or part of the media to me. I saw an old 1940's photo recently of a German schoolboy casually walking past a pile of dead bodies. He was smiling and didn't even look at the corpses of the Holocaust victims. I'm telling you it's rather bigoted and shallow of you to try and label this as a "redneck" issue. It's a human issue. It's thinking like yours which may end up with white rednecks hanging from trees some day.
I point to my grandparents because they were probably of the same generation as those in the photo. They were prejudiced like all whites of that time period. And they would not have approved of lynching black men or any men. You're not addressing the real issue!
How so? You're trying to take the issue presented and make it be about something else, "something bigger". You could just start your own thread about the evil of humanity, if that's what you're wanting to do. And the only reason why ToastedCheese used the term "redneck" was due to the nature of the photograph. If the photo had been of the smiling young German boy walking past a pile of corpses, Toasty would most assuredly not have used the word "redneck". You pointed out that the boy was smiling, so do you think his smile was incidental or did you infer that something darker was going on?

I’m sorry you’re having a bad day Gamey, but that’s not really relevant. The direction that you have attempted to take seems wayward to me. It’s just not making sense in the context of the subject, which is the main port of call, not derision of class distinction. Bigotry is unprejudiced in this dynamic. I merely said "I don't understand it and I would like a better explanation than 'ignorant rednecks'."
I did not insult you. I wanted to take the discussion away from one of class and race to the evil of humanity in general. I made no personal attack you. You then proceeded to hurl insult after insult at me.
I painstakingly went threw and listed all the nasty ad hominem attacks you made on me. Where did I insult you and where is all this anger and hostility coming from when I merely wanted to make this about something more than "rednecks" and place the onus on humanity in general?
Okay, I'm "self-absorbed", distorting, spinning, "disingenuous" (it's a "tendency"), I "failed", I'm "making up stories", I'm "trying" to be "profound and relevant", I'm dishonest, I can't be "fixed", I don't know what I'm talking about, and I'm "desperate" because I think this is about more than "rednecks".
What the hell is wrong with you?
No kindly go fuck yourself, you pretentious self-important dickwad. Again, I didn't insult you once until now, so the FU is long overdo here.
Gameboy, I know you don't have a bad heart, but the thing is you have a tendency to talk like you're the smartest person on board. (Not saying that you're not intelligent) I would say Toasty was frustrated because you took his words "ignorant redneck" and were wanting to make him feel shallow and simple because he didn't acknowledge the "bigger issue" of the EVIL OF HUMANITY. And then make yourself appear deeper and more profound in the process. And, yes, this was disingenuous. Nowhere did Toasty state or imply that Nazism was not atrocious. Nothing he said could have provided for a reasonable leap in thinking. You were projecting. You really can't blame him for getting frustrated. In the end (pun intended), hopefully us queers, homos and gays can remain friendly.

I don't have more info on that particular pic, but all you have to do is google images lynchings and it will lead you to tons of pics and articles. That image will be tame compared to other disturbing ones that will be floating around. I just really wanted to know a context of date and incident and who and what were those people attending? I haven't done the research. I'm sure it would be easy to find. But my guess would be the 1950s based on their style, and a lynching of two human beings based on the two people hanging from the tree in the background.

No chance. Only a ghoul shows up to a public execution.

No chance. Only a ghoul shows up to a public execution. Not even for a six-man hanging?

No. That's not something I would want to see in real life.

Not even for a six-man hanging? I have only seen the film once, own on dvd, and was devastated by that scene. The film wasn't anything like I thought it would be. It was difficult to watch, especially with those 2 young men who were in a sense just railroaded onto the gallows. What a waste! Not exactly a "feel good" kind of picture.
