So, there were apparently some notable additions and subtractions from the contract cast this week according to the credits. This week represents the first week fully filmed post-shutdown so this is additions they've made since the shutdown.
Removed Kristian Alfonso as Hope Brady (obviously) Melissa Reeves as Jennifer Deveraux (which makes her 'temporary' departure feel not so temporary)
Added Brandon Barash as Jake Lambert (interesting only in that it was odd he was never on contract before, but he never has been, not as Stefan, not as Jake) Marci Miller as Abigail Deveraux (There had been some thinking/hope she was only temporary but maybe over the hiatus she decided she might as well make a commitment) Mike Manning as Charlie Dale (whatever) Cady McClain as Jennifer Deveraux (doesn't feel like something they'd do for a temporary cast member)

That's interesting about Brandon, I would have assumed he was on contract.
So far I liked Cady in her one brief scene. As much as Missy Reeves IS Jennifer, I don't mind this change. I am looking forward to watching J&J scenes where Cady isn't using Jack's name in every other word. It always bugged me that MR was ALWAYS saying Jack, Jack, Jack 5 million times. J&J have always been my fave couple but I like the change. Plus if tensions on set are so high with MR and others because of her far right beliefs, it really limits the scenes Jennifer can have with her family. We haven't seen her with anyone other than the DiMera house people or Hope in months.
I'm still so indifferent on MM as Abigail. Aside from the fact her and Kate Mansi look nothing alike, MM plays Abigail SO DIFFERENTLY. They are not even the same character. MM comes across as smug (for lack of a better word). I still love Chad and he definitely brings out the best in her but I don't know, it's not the same.

So, Mike Manning is on contract? I thought he was just a temporary character?
I figured that Brandan Barash would finally be offered a contract with the show.
I’m a bit behind on Days, so I haven’t seen the new Jennifer yet. I’m looking forward to seeing how she does.
Lastly, is Emily Owen on contract? I’m so annoyed at her constant nail biting. It’s so distracting. Is it her or just her character? It’s just awful.

Nothing about him screams "contract cast member" but maybe there's more to him than meets the eye? There'd almost have to be. Emily O'Brien (Gwen) is on contract, she was bumped up on 9/10. Rumor is having it that Gwen is Jack's daughter, and that's what this is all about so she may be someone we have to get used to. As for the nail-biting, I bet that's a character choice to indicate neuroses, I remember her from Y&R and don't believe she did it there.

Being on contract does seem to mean as much as one would assume. The show can end a contract at the end of the 13 week cycle and have put people on contact only to write them off a short time later. It's plausible this is strictly tactical, where they may want to ensure the actor doesn't up and leave while on recurring; which they can do at any time. Contract status really works more to the show's benefit that way. They don't have to worry about recasting part way through a short term story; then once that story is over they take them off contract and write them off.

THAT SPOILER - WHAT?! HOW? WHEN? I did not see that one coming. Based on Glo's wording, it's still just a rumor and not yet confirmed; though I know I've seen it speculated on other threads. Since i haven't been watching, I'm not familiar with some of the newer faces - is this is the same person who's been speculated to.... ... have some type of legacy connection; and being Jack's daughter is just one variation of this? I know there was a character that some wondered might turn out to be Shane's daughter (or maybe Shane's brother's daughter)

Yes that is the same character. This might be true based on... A recent convo in the town square with J&J and Jack was lamenting about all the times he left and wasn't there and Jennifer said "but you are here now"...

Guys. It gets worse when you hear who (rumor has it) the mother is. You'll never guess. You'll seriously never guess. Think of a stupid choice for who the mother could be. It'll be worse than that. You ready? Kate.
How? When? Under what circumstances? Why? No clue.
