I have a hard time believing a Bond movie with Christopher Walken as the bad guy can be all that bad

I like A View to a Kill actually. I'd even say it's better than Live and Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, and even Octopussy. Sure, it has its flaws, but I still find it to be entertaining.

One of my least favorites in the series. Down there with Die Another Die & Quantum of Solace.

I have nostalgia for it, but I've always had fun with it. I don't flat out dislike any of the official Bond movies though.

I haven’t seen it since it first came out, but I remember it being the first and only Roger Moore Bond movie I didn’t like. Not sure if I would like it better if I watched it today, but it’s possible.

Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review:
A View to a Kill (1985) - 2 out of 4 stars
"One of the weakest James Bond movies saddles 007 with a bland villain (Walken, who wants to destroy California's lucrative Silicon Valley), a monotonous villainess (Jones), and a wimpy leading lady (Roberts). And it goes on forever. Only some spectacular stunt sequences keep it alive. (Oh, yes, there's also a gorgeous Russian spy--played by Fiona Fullerton--who disappears too soon.) Moore's final appearance as 007."

Not one of my favorite of the Bond movies, I remember when it was new that I thought it felt tired. I haven't seen it years though.

I like it. The soundtrack is the best in the entire franchise and it has a great villain. The lack of diverse settings is a problem, however, and pacing is an issue.

I didn't really see how it was any campier or more stupid than the other Moore Bond films. He's a fossil in it, but that guy wasn't any more badass a decade earlier. I actually found it one of the more enjoyable of his run. As you said, can't really say no to Christopher Walken as a Bond villain. May Day was cool, too.

Who says it's so bad? It's nowhere near the best, but I think it's very enjoyable.

Moonraker is worse IMO.
In retrospect the movie would've worked better if they acknowledge Bond's age.

Moonraker is worse IMO. In retrospect the movie would've worked better if they acknowledge Bond's age. Moonraker really wasn't and neither was view to a kill. And you don't need any Bond film to start with a birthday party with Barney the dinosaur in attendance because you need everything spelt out for you.

I don't think there are any bad Bond movies (Eon productions only) but I think Moonraker is the weakest of all. That's not what I meant. Bond in A View to a Kill is not supposed to be older. He's still supposed to be in his prime. And I think it would've worked if they played as Bond going on his last mission before retirement because he was getting old.

I wouldn't say A View to a Kill is bad per se, but IMO it is the most forgettable Bond film. BTW, in addition to a lot of horror films for Halloween, we've recently being doing a lot of Bond films over at the Movie Quotes board. Bond fans will probably enjoy the following threads: James Bond Star Trek Adventures Quantum of solace is worse.

Moonraker is fun but it's a strange flick. All Bond movies have an element of camp and are self-referential with winks to the audience here and there, but only Moonraker feels like an out and out spoof of itself.

It's not that bad unless you get past a few flaws. Roger Moore is obviously too old, and he did have some cosmetic surgery done to his face and it makes him look completely different. The plot does copy from Goldfinger the scheme to corner a prized commodity and stifle the competition; here, it's the silicon microchip market. It even outright copies a scene in which the villain in both films kill an investor who wants out of the scheme. Tanya Roberts is one of the weakest Bond girls there is, and her screaming of "James!" gets old fast.
To the film's credit, it has some visceral action sequences, good chemistry between Moore and Patrick Macnee, the title song by Duran Duran, and Christopher Walken's memorable performance as Zorin. Personally, I give it a 6/10.
