Jones stripped and the Eagles recover, and the Eagles will get the win 22-21!!
Entertaining game despite the fact that both teams suck, the Eagles clearly have the better team and can move the ball and have some talent, they are banged up and Wentz has turned the ball over too much but Wentz led them to a nice comeback win tonight. The Giants are just weak, their defense suck and their offense isn’t much better.

Terrible, typical game.
Two shitty teams battling to prove who's worse.
And in the most typical fashion it was lost because Evan Engram just can't catch a pass.
And then fittingly, if only symbolically at that point, it official ends on a Daniel Jones fumble.

How any Eagles fan can feel good after that game is beyond me. That was a victory in name only. Total trash.

Didn't even watch the game as I was stuck at work late tonight. Giants pissed away another winnable game in the last minutes? Color me surprised!

God I hate the nonsense of 'automatic 1st down' on a 5 yard penalty.. or any penalty. It makes absolutely no sense. It does when you hold someone who would have beat you for a big gain.

Well, the game provided a bit of humor for the entire country. That's a scarce commodity these days.
This also provides the best commentary on the game.

Would have been easy to roll over and die when we've appeared dead and buried
Could have been easy to roll over and die in the 4th last night when we were down 21-10
We came back against the Steelers and made a game of it when it would have been easy to just roll over and die
We came back against the Ravens and made a game of it when it would have been easy to just roll over and die
This reminds me of our Super Bowl year when everybody counted us out and pissed all over us - and we as Underdogs just kept fighting with the heart of a champion and the spirit of a Roman Empire Gladiator with our M*A*S*H unit of injuries.
This team is a winner - the leader of the NFC East.
They've put a smile on my face which it's all about - I know we won't roll over and quit in a tight competitive NFC East war they way we've showed grit and heart -
With all these injuries with our Superstars being out of the lineup - and showing the pride of a fighting city that won't quit -
Dare I say anything that happens from here on out is - GRAVY! Because we've already proved we're winners.
Keep pissing on us - We're fighting for each other and could care less what the rest of you think!

No, it still doesn't. The distance of the penalty and getting the down back is enough. 5 yards and an automatic first down is absolute insanity. The only penalties where an automatic 1st down makes sense is a personal foul because it's supposed to be extra punitive. And even then...

I didn't see the play in question here, but in general I'm fine with an automatic first on defensive holding or PI. Just giving someone a down back doesn't make up for what could've been a huge gain if they didn't commit the foul. I guess if you wanted to tweak the rule, you could say it's five yards and still _ down if the foul was committed before the line to gain, but beyond the line to gain it's an automatic first. On a related note, I prefer the college rule for PI: 15 yards as opposed to spot of the foul. The NFL rule exists solely to increase scoring, it's idiotic and completely unfair to the defense.

You know what frogs? I agree with you. It was an ugly win against a bad team, but sometimes that's what it takes. They had every reason to quit but they kept fighting until the end. Like you said, this is all you can ask as a fan. You want a team that competes no matter what. This is the kind of game that in seasons past, I would've bitched about if the Pats eeked out a W against a lousy team; but all things considered the Eagles are fighting through injuries and trying to get their season back on track. This showed heart, it's a good win for a team playing in a terrible division this year.

One of the things we typically hear as fans are - 'The players don't care as much as the fans because they're millionaires'.
They were down 11 points with 6 minutes to go last night. They could have just cashed it in and went home - just like the Steelers and Ravens games where they were getting whooped - but fought back to make games of them
We've all seen teams with '0' heart just roll over and die when it would have been easy to.
I'm happy we're not one of those teams.

I don’t think the play in question matters. I think as a rule across the board it's stupid and doesn't make sense. If anything is just intended to increase scoring and be unfair to the defense it's giving away an automatic 1st down for a 5 yard, or really any penalty. There's no equivalent on defense, you don't get offensive PI and it's an automatic 4th down. Defensive holding is supposed to be a lesser penalty than PI but the result is ultimately the same thing. 3rd and 95 and you have a slight tug of a jersey and you get an automatic 1st and 10. It's fucking ridiculous. I'm not for making it more convoluted by adding to the penalty caveats about where the first down marker was. I don't see how getting to replay the down with the added penalty yardage could be considered unreasonable. Also 'half the distance to the goal' is a bunch of nonsensical bullshit too, but that doesn't come up much... and I don't think anybody asked.

I hear you; but the flip side is 3rd and 25, I have the defender beat with nobody behind me and he straight up grabs me. So it's 3rd and 20? That's not fair to the offense in my opinion. I think they try to mitigate the devastation of an automatic first by only making it a five yard penalty. It's not perfect, but to me it's the most fair outcome you can come up with for both sides in that situation.

I have no problem with a spot-of-the-foul penalty. Within 5 yards that's pretty much legal anyway. If they want to make it a 10 yard penalty that's far more reasonable than the automatic 1st down.

There's no easy answer. A passing play is likely to net more than five yards, especially in a situation like I proposed. You'd still be punishing the offense by only giving them ten yards and a replay of down on a 3rd and 25, or any down where the play was clearly going to result in a huge gain. I agree the rules are skewed toward the offense (nowadays more than ever), but you can't allow the defense to consider a penalty to be a better option than proper technique on 70% of pass plays.

They did get a TD on the drive, so not quite a buttfumble. I saw somebody said it was worse than the butt-fumble. It's pretty funny, but it's like a 90 yard gain where they scored 2 plays later. In what universe is that the same as a lost fumble in a blowout loss? People are fucking stupid.
