Savaged (a.k.a. Avenged) / Michael S. Ojeda (2013). A sub-development of the Revenge Movie begun by that right-wing wet dream “Death Wish” (1972) is the woman who is seriously beaten and raped by apish men and then takes a terrible retribution on them, perhaps begun by “I Spit On Your Grave” (1974). This is a recent example that brings in a supernatural element and is filmed in Indie style. Zoe (Amanda Adrienne Smith) a 20-something deaf woman is driving across country to meet up with her fiancé in California. Traveling through the southwest desert she runs across a family of troglodyte bigots who kill Native Americans on the nearby Pueblo. She witnesses a murder and is taken back to the hovel where the killers live. After being brutalized, she is killed and buried in a shallow grave. But the spirit of an angry Apache chief from the 19th century animates her corpse so she returns to life. Here are the drive-in stats as used to be done by Drive-In Critic Joe Bob Briggs: No breasts. 8 dead bodies. Heads roll. Intestine pulling, heart eating, and Apache Kung-fu. Something for everyone. Of course, the bad guys are a set-up of incredible evil but seeing them get what’s coming is in some sick way satisfying.
