Example - Raiders of the Lost & Empire Strikes Back sit in my top three favorite movies (Godfather II coming up the rear). At this point, Raiders and Empire are almost interchangeable for the top spot. Anyway, said films have the same screenwriter, composer, production designer, production company, visual effects company, both filmed in Panavision, partially shot in England, and obviously Harrison Ford. Both films were also the highest grossing of their year, respectively.

The Silence of the Lambs and The Shining. Both about crazy men and a female protagonist. One a psychological horror movie and the other a psychological thriller with horror elements.
The irony is that horror is generally one of my least favorite genres.

Most of them are pretty slim on edits, dialogue or a traditional narrative structure.

Two of my top favorites both have Marcel Dalio; a singalong of "La Marsellaise;" end with two guys walking towards the horizon together; and received Best Picture Oscar nominations (and both deserved to win, but one didn't).

My All Time #1 & #2 were both based on serials, and have stories written by the same person. STAR WARS (1977) and Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Two of my favorites are It's a Wonderful Life and Wings of Desire.
Both dealing with beings questioning their own existence and wanting a change . One chooses death and the other chooses life.

Great thread.
Harry and Tonto, La Strada, Nashville, They Shoot Horses, Don't They?,Network, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, Battle of Algiers, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, A Woman Under The Influence, Buffalo '66
They all have universal issues, social commentary. Great script, great acting.
