I hadn’t heard about Caruso. Then again, I never got into CSI. He was a huge diva on NYPD Blue, had alot of contract demands. He also has a pretty hot temper apparently.

Rourke showed some humility when making The Wrestler, but then quickly resorted to his old bad ways afterwards. Telling a director to "go play with himself" when he wasn't offered a large enough paycheck for a project may not be the best way for making friends in any business.
Norton reportedly fancied himself a screenwriter, wanting to rewrite the scripts for some projects he was involved in, most notably The Incredible Hulk.
I don't know what happened to Caruso, but I seem to recall that after CSI he fancied himself a huge star behaving rather arrogantly in the process.
It's weird how much leeway certain actors get when it comes to antisocial behaviour and box-office disappointments, while for others one huge flop or one single case of "creative differences" with a producer can be enough to ruin their career.
I mean Eddie Murphy had been making flop after flop for years, and yet he still got hefty paycheques thrown after him. And this despite him reputedly being an arrogant moron.
They say John Travolta is a real nice guy, which might explain why he still has a career. I mean when was the last time he had a hit?
I wonder why Bruce Willis hasn't been blackballed. He seems to be quite a jerk and has had his fair share of flops over the years too.
Josh Hartnett ran into trouble when shooting Mozart and the Whale. In a dispute between the director and producer he sided with the director, which seems to have been enough to ruin his career. And this was just some small indie movie.
I'm not sure what happened to Sarah Michelle Gellar. She's retired now, but there was a time when she was trying to revive her career with rather lacklustre results.

A lot of the silent stars were shut out of talkies because of their lifestyles. Louise Brooks and Clara Bow are two examples. The Hays Code ushered in a "wholesome" era in movies.

Lew Ayres was influenced by his role in All Quiet on the Western Front to question the morality of war. He donated his military salary to the American Red Cross. After the war, his military service impressed Hollywood so much that they "forgave" him and allowed him to continue his movie career.

Scheider didn't sign up for that kind of show and wanted out-being replaced by Michael Ironside. But if you look--Scheider dropped into low budget stuff after that.
Since we know Hollywood will piss away money when it feels like it--them ostracizing Scheider had nothing to do with profit loss and I doubt he had a bad reputation before that given how many things he had done. So they were mad.
Michael Keaton also got ostracized because he refused to do Batman 3 and you see what he primarily does now? Superhero stuff.

it wasn't batman that killed Keaton's opportunities, as much as a being a hollywood outsider did, couple that with pissing off Eastwood on Mystic River and that likely is why he disappeared for awhile.

He was losing leading man roles by 1997. Jack Frost might have been contractual punishment for him.
Hey before he hit the skids he made a film with Christopher Reeve.
