The more I think about it, the more I feel that anything with Ben Affleck in it is by definition, a bad movie.

I thought it was fairly good. Wouldn't watch it again.

i liked it. though at that point affleck was so low that it made him look like a genius. i'd rather see the real argo movie script filmed.

yeah, but it's not perfect. act 1 and 3 are quite strong, but act 2 is okay, The Town and Gone Baby Gone are his stronger pieces, but Argo is very respectable.

Yes, it is a good movie and one of the best of 2011. Did it deserve to win Best Picture? Absolutely not.

It's one of those movies that was decent enough to see once but ultimately has no re-watch appeal. hence, Thumbs Down.

Mediocre and quite forgettable. I'm surprised it locked in so many awards including 3 oscars...

I saw it, but for the life of me, I cannot remember anything about it. I guess that doesn't speak well for it's staying power.

It was good, but after I saw it I expected to see it have poor reviews because I hadn't seen any as of then. The reviews were good, but I'm not sure it deserved them. It just isn't exciting.

I admit, I'm a huge John Goodman fan, so that was what lured me into watching it (the time period it takes place in isn't one of my favorites for movies, so I skipped it at theatres). Yet when I sat down with my bargain bin copy one rainy Saturday, I very much enjoyed it. I'm also a sucker for a beat-down, rundown hero, which Affleck's character seems to be (living in a motel, tunes into whatever movie his son is watching and talks to his son on the phone so he can have that "what are WE watching" moment with his kid), smoking way too much... The cast was too awesome, in my opinion, for a boring movie. The only weak point for me was that I just didn't like any of the Americans that were being hidden, so I found it was harder to pay as much attention to their characters from the halfway point onward. I still pop the movie in from time to time and watch it. I particularly like ANY scene with Goodman, plus when Arkin talks about how kids need their moms and when he is getting permission to make their movie, and the stuff with Cranston back at the CIA headquarters as he waits for Affleck to get back with the hostages. Now I'm the first to admit it isn't a movie for everyone. It is a slower paced thing with lots of historical nerdiness going on, and there is a lot of focus on the inner-life of the characters. Not a lot of action, not much in the way of laughs (although Goodman's crack about "you can train a monkey to be a director" while sitting across from the director is a nice tongue'n'cheek moment), and it doesn't have the visuals of say LIVE BY NIGHT where you can get lost in the cinematography.
