I am not a fan of any of Peter Jackson's early work, but this movie is sick and depraved trying to pass as satire. It is amusing in it's complete uniqueness, but it ends up being not funny and just depressing and shocking more for the sake of being shocking than anything.
It is an interesting movie to talk about though, I'll give it that.

I like "Meet the Feebles" and "Dead Alive" quite a bit. I found them both pretty stunning and not just for the sake of shock value, either.
MTF also boasts the very strange - but still pretty - song "Garden of Love".

They are also very gross, but both in ways that kind of made my jaw drop. I wasn't repelled at all, but rather fascinated by somebody who could make such interesting and entertaining movies that were also so over the top gross. Usually gross movies are depressing, but these movies were exhilarating. There was a lot of movie making glee inside Peter Jackson. Somewhat akin to the more cynical and less wondrous John Waters.

I figured that would be your answer. I had the exact opposite reaction to the movies as you already know. People are often shocked that I think Dead Alive is boring and uninteresting. Meet the Feebles is at least amusing, it is just amusing in a bad way.

This is one of the best scenes Peter Jackson has ever directed imo.

I thought the first LoTR film was pretty dull, I'm still yet to see the others. Heavenly Creatures is his best, IMO, of the few I've seen. Dead Alive was fun, but too silly and OTT to really take seriously. I've not seen Meet the Feebles.

I think Gary Larson's Tales from the Far Side is my favourite adult animated satire that features anthropomorphic animals. It's worth checking out.

Remember they did some movie a year or two ago that looked like a Meet the Feebles ripoff?

A very strange movie, but I've got to admit "Hell hath no fury like a hippo with a machine gun" is a great tagline.

Remember they did some movie a year or two ago that looked like a Meet the Feebles ripoff? The Happytime Murders (2018) with Melissa McCarthy?

Never got around to it. But I love early splatter period PJ.
Did you watch it for OHC? I was under the impression it didn't count.

Jcush was talking about watching some of Peter Jackson's early work that he hadn't seen yet and I was telling him my thoughts on Meet the Feebles and that got me curious to see what people here think about it. It seems like a movie that would be very divisive. Bad Taste is easily my favorite of his first 3 movies.
