When Debbie Reynolds was cast in "Singing In The Rain" she had never danced before so had to learn for the film. Her second dancing movie was in the terribly titled "I Love Melvin (1953). She was partnered again with Donald O'Conner from Singing/Rain. This was a year before she married Eddie Fisher and two years before Carrie was born. What, so Donald O'Connor was chopped liver?? I notice that the video was credited solely to Debbie Reynolds. Well, of course--as Toasted Cheese observed--Reynolds was "an absolute delight"...but she wasn't exactly performing a solo here--and the lead vocal was all Mr. O'Connor. I admit I have something of an agenda here, in that I believe DO'C never got half the acclaim he deserved. A lot of people--maybe a majority--watch Singin' in the Rain and swoon over Gene Kelly, and I agree that he was fantastic...but O'Connor's my guy. (I would argue that of the two, setting aside the question of dancing, DO'C was the superior singer.) Okay, rant over. You may now return to your regularly-scheduled postings.
