I saw the Andy Dalton hit. Many people are saying that was a cheap shot and dirty hit. I don't agree. The guy that hit him wasn't even looking.
I agree it should be a penalty. Because it was helmet to helmet. But no cheap shot or dirty hit.
What do you think?

Definitely dirty and targeting
Like McCarthy said - can't believe his teammates didn't step up for him

Are you crazy? That's the definition of a dirty hit. The rule is the QB is giving himself up when he's sliding. This guy saw an opportunity to lay someone out and he took it. It's dirty.

Doesn't look good. The only possible defence you could make is that he'd already committed to the hit before Dalton started to slide. But given he looked to slide pretty early that's flimsy. There needs to be some duty of care.

And call me nuts, but if you're not looking at the ball or the guy you're tackling isn't that manifestly reckless?

I think he should have been penalized, been thrown out of the game, and ultimately gets a fine. But I don't think it's dirty. For me, dirty has to be with malice. Albert Haynesworth stepping on an offensive lineman's head is dirty. Myles Garrett swinging a helmet at Mason Rudolph's head is dirty. Vontez Burrfict forearm shivers to the heads of players are dirty. Bang-bang plays are a level less than that to me.

Players get penalized all the time for hitting a sliding quarterback. They don't get fined and thrown out of the game.

Wait until it happens to a Saint - something tells me he won’t be rushing to say “it wasn’t dirty because he wasn’t looking.”

i'll never understand why Clowney was never flagged and thrown out of the game for his playoff game hit vs. Wentzy
changed the whole game - as Wentzy never returned

Wait until it happens to a Saint - something tells me he won’t be rushing to say “it wasn’t dirty because he wasn’t looking.” I don’t even get what the “he wasn’t looking” reference even means. So the Football Team guy hits the sliding QB in the head, but it’s not dirty because he wasn’t looking? What the fuck is that then? I don’t know anything about the WFT guy, if he has a history of this or not. I think dirty goes with intent. The hit WAS illegal though and warranted ejection.
