If you want like movies focused on duplicity and deception then the best recent example I can recommend is The Handmaiden (2016). It's a Korean period piece but its story is easily accessible to English speaking audiences and it's extremely entertaining;one of my favorite movies from last year. The closest I can compare it to is probably The Talented Mr. Ripley and that's only a third of the plot.

"where people pose as something but have to become it for real."
That's an interesting story type that has me trying to think of movies that are just out of reach. Also reminds me of Blair Witch Project (and other found footage films) where they set out to do a documentary of something presumed to be fiction, but find out soon enough that it is more real than they thought.
