Honestly, All I want now at this point is for the U.S. Supreme Court to stay out of it completely.

Trump's still throwing a temper tantrum on Twitter - in all Caps - 'THE OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE COUNTING ROOMS. I WON THE ELECTION, GOT 71,000,000 LEGAL VOTES. BAD THINGS HAPPENED WHICH OUR OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WERE SENT TO PEOPLE WHO NEVER ASKED FOR THEM!' Being a sore loser is never a good look folks.

The thing I find most ironic and laughable about these people is that Trump hates them. He wouldn’t bother pissing on them if they were on fire. These people must have Daddy issues or something because the love they give him would never be returned in 10,000 years.

Kind of a mixed bag here. Obviously a great day because Trump was ousted, and because so many Americans were finally motivated to exercise their right to vote. The downside is 71,000,000 people still voted for this asshole. The way he handled the pandemic and the civil unrest this year alone should've made him unelectable, and that's assuming you could tune out every other scandal that has dogged his presidency up until that point.
What frustrates me is that the incredible voter turnout speaks more to the incendiary politicization of our society at the moment. Sure Trump has the loons and the idiots, but I have to believe the bulk of his base wasn't even voting for the man, simply the principle that they wouldn't vote for 'the left' at any cost. The Trump supporters in my inner circle have intimated as much to me. It's alarming, and people need to realize Trump was a symptom, not the disease.
Already the rhetoric from the right is how they're going to fight Biden tooth and nail on everything. What a brilliant strategy, and I'm sure they'll still complain about the Democrats 'playing politics' every time they get in the way of a Republican president's agenda. The days of reaching across the aisle, compromise, reason, are long gone and have been replaced by increasing rancor, distrust and hyperbole designed to activate extremists on either side.
Now more than ever, we need more choices, more voices in the room. If nothing else, it will force politicians to work together instead of two parties making it about 'us vs. them.'
But let's focus on the positives:
1. Trump is gone! America's problems aren't going to disappear overnight, but at the very least we no longer will have a president going out of his way to undermine our democracy and divide us at every turn. We no longer have a president discouraging the people from following public health protocols during a pandemic (or suggesting they should inject disinfectant to stop it!). No more all caps tweets insulting his political enemies or intimidating witnesses during an impeachment trial, or screaming about fraud the moment things don't go his way. Bottom line, we won't have a nine year old in the oval office anymore.
Sorry Donald, in business you can bully and litigate your way out of anything if you try hard enough; but you can't sue or fire the American people away from the ballot box.
2. We have a female VP. See America, it's not so crazy to think a woman could be a valued part of a leadership group. It took the, "Anything would be better than Trump," movement to make it happen, but that's how progress works sometimes.
Great to see people across America celebrating in the streets like the US had just won the war or something. Imagine being that hated. Fireworks, literal fireworks were going off intermittently here in my town all night last night. We're a patriotic lot.
The hard work is ahead. Trump lawsuits will be in and out of court in no time because there's literally no case, after that it's just a matter of which hate group or militia he activates with vague tweets first. But we'll get him out of the White House one way or another. I'm most curious to see what direction the Republican party goes in after this debacle. A return to sanity and good old fashioned conservative values would be appreciated, I don't agree with a lot of what the GOP has to say regarding social issues, but at least they could be reasoned with in the old days.
EDIT before posting: Talk about a seismic shift. I do believe we just had an earthquake as I was about to hit post. Not a common occurrence around these parts. Hell, even the Earth itself is excited to get rid of climate change deniers.
EDIT: Confirmed 4.2 earthquake just off the coast of Massachusetts.

I must say, as a nasty Euro-leftie who FWIW does consider Biden the far lesser of two evils, I don't fancy Harris much as his successor should he pop his clogs. She's pretty illiberal, and I strongly suspect (with scant evidence, I dare say) that she'll embroil y'all in future India v Pakistan shenanigans. But I'm pleased for decent Americans, and am feeling virtuous in not (yet!) giving in to the very strong temptation to shamelessly troll the indecent. (ETA - oops, I just did!)

Bernie Sanders would've been much further left, and the Democrats panicked and chose Biden because he was the moderate choice. The talk among the left at the moment is how Harris needs to ingratiate herself to the more liberal leaning edge of the Democratic party if she has hopes on the future beyond VP.

Harris has to either work with other wings of the party, or be kept on a tight leash (metaphorically, of course!).

“We no longer have a president discouraging the people from following public health protocols during a pandemic (or suggesting they should inject disinfectant to stop it!).“
Specifically on the subject of Covid, I think it’s too late for the most part to fix this. Sure, Biden can lend more support to hospitals, get more supplies, enact rules or whatever to help stem the outbreak. But Trump, for reason that are still unknown to me, chose to politicize the Covid response vs trying to actually help it. No response to Covid would have been better than Trump’s actions. Now, all the people that supported him think that wearing masks is akin to forced sterilization despite the facts that so many non-maskers and non-social-distancers won’t do a single thing that Biden asks. The lord god himself can come down and explain to me while these morons think wearing a mask is such a big fucking deal and I still won’t understand it. I do find it ironic when they make the “my body my choice” argument, forgetting the second-hand smoke aspect of Covid. Sure, you might not give a shit if you get it, but I sure give a shit if you give it to someone’s grandmother.
Anyway, this argument has been argued to death. I bring nothing new to the table. I’m grateful that Trump will be gone but I feel the damage has been done and won’t be fixed in our lifetimes.

Pandora's Box has been opened and I don't know what any politician can do to stop it now, but at least we don't have our biggest cheerleader telling us to ignore it anymore. We can't turn back time but we can do the right thing going forward. I have incredibly low standards for a president these days and Trump couldn't even meet those. Again at the very least we can stop the war on facts, the destruction of our national parks and climate change denial at the highest levels of government. And we won't have a president who thinks BLM is an actual war between black people and police, and choosing to side with the latter.

For me, Donald Trump's time as President will not be over until it is officially over once Joe Biden is sworn in.
If the U.S. Supreme Court gets involved then there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they will rule in favor of Trump regardless of whether his team has evidence of fraud or not.
I keep saying it, I really really hope that the U.S. Supreme Court will stay out of it but I am certain that they won't.

All I can say right now is that I certainly HOPE not ! I simply don't know and cannot begin to guess. It's a level of worry that is out of our hands and needs to be put on the back burner for now. Too many more immediate things to worry about that CAN be dealt with on a personal level.

The Supreme Court can't really just "get involved." I mean, there are instances where they can opt to take up a case, but generally speaking the Supreme Court can really only look at cases that have passed through the lower courts and then they can opt to take up the appeals of those cases. For instance, one case was about Pennsylvania agreeing to extend the deadline for which properly mailed ballots (ones postmarked before Election Day) would be received and counted. The argument the Trump team made was that the Pennsylvania state constitution expressly provides that only the legislature can make laws affecting the election process, and when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court allowed the extension of ballots, that went against the state's constitution. However, the Trump team failed to note that the Pennsylvania constitution also expressly allows the state's highest court to make these decisions in extraordinary circumstances, and when you factor in a pandemic, and funding cuts to the postal service causing massive delays, they were clearly within their constitutionally provided power to make this decision. This case won't go anywhere. All of those cases are kind of based on that same kind of flawed interpretation of things, and they created this viral sensation where people were constantly bitching about "ballots coming in after the polls were closed, throw them out!" It's ridiculous. Plus, even if a case did manage to find its way all the way up there, the Court isn't going to just play favorites and decide in favor of Trump if that ruling would clearly fly in the face of jurisprudence, and the way things stand right now, that's exactly what it would take. John Roberts is smart, he knows that the Court's reputation hangs in the balance and if the Court were to disregard a state's election laws to satisfy the baseless rantings of an asshole and his armies of uninformed "election law experts" on Facebook, then the entire standing of the Court would come into question. He won't let that happen.

This is definitely something that is really stuck in my head though. Well, look at this way, I don't pretend to know everything and if the last 4 years has taught us anything is that convention has gone out the window, but I at least understand how the Court typically operates presumably a pinch more than some random commenter on whatever youtube channel you're watching. Let's put it another way. Last week, I was getting a haircut and the news was on when the story about a police officer involved in the Breonna Taylor murder came up, about how he was suing the boyfriend for emotional distress. Some dipshit in the barbershop starts audibly saying "man, I hope he sues that guy in the Supreme Court, I bet Trump's judges would love to tear that bitch down." That guy knows about as much as how the court system in this country works as do the people whose comments you are reading and getting worked up over.
