Not sure why you both have The Avengers as an origin story... Yeah, I was wondering if it made sense to include it. Nobody gets their powers obviously, but it does show the formation of the group.

I excluded Guardians since it's a team, but it would take the #2 spot for me if it's included.

1) Batman Begins 2) Iron Man 3) Spider-Man 4) The Avengers 5) Doctor Strange What say you?? I only have three picks. Superman The Movie earns the top spot for me because of its unabashed depiction of a genre that was, at the time, considered to be the province of children and the weak minded. Superman The Movie shows us a hero who is sensitive, intelligent, confident and unrelentingly optimistic. It's a shame that those traits are no longer held in high regard anymore. Batman Begins takes the second spot for its psychologically complex portrayal of the Dark Knight. It mixes equal parts grounded realism with stunningly realized gothic fantasy. BB elevates the genre to a fine art. Iron Man captures third place for bringing an incremental upgrade to the genre. The superhero is now convincingly pulled from his insular fantasy setting and thrust into the fog of asymmetric warfare and corporate intrigue. Iron Man is the first truly 21-century superhero film. SaveSaveSaveSaveExcellent choices but why not add a fourth and fifth? Alright @forceghostackbar - if you're going to twist my arm. :-) I could add Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film to my list easily. It's a nearly perfect superhero origin story. It's aged extremely well for me in all aspects except one - some of the supporting cast. I never really liked Kristen Dunst as Mary Jane or James Franco as Harry Osborne. They weren't terrible but, they never matched Maguire's energy and enthusiasm. Hulk 2003 is also a standout origin movie for me. I know this is a very controversial choice as many didn't like Ang Lee's take on the character. I feel it is the only 3-dimensional portrayal of the character. Hulk explores the concept of rage on a conscious and sub-conscious level. There is a psychic toll that repressed anger takes on the human spirit and Lee captures it skillfully. Add an eery score and superb performances from Connelly, Elliot, Nolte and Bana and you have a fine (if slightly flawed) origin story. All the flexing and growling of the Incredible Hulk seems puerile in comparison. SaveSaveSaveSave

In no particular order:
Superman The Movie Batman (Michael Keaton one) Spider-man (Raimi one) Iron Man The Avengers (since we are considering it as an origin movie as well)

Superman the Movie.
I haven't really thought about the rest. That one just tops my list.
