Happy Birthday indeed!
I've said it before here, and I'll say it again. Dwight Evans was, and probably still is, my all-time favorite Red Sox player. This was a guy who, in the 70's, was an all-glove no-hit bottom of the order player who worked his ass off to become, by the mid-80's, evolved into the Sox's most dangerous hitter, actually all around more dangerous than future Hall of Famers Jim Rice and Wade Boggs.
A Hall of Famer? Well.....
Up until a couple of years ago, I said close, but no cigar. Then however, Tony Larussa decided that his buddy Harold Baines should be in the Hall. And everything now has changed.
I was watching a lot of baseball in the 1980s, and I have two working eyes and an open mind, and believe me, Dwight Evans was a much better all around player than Harold Baines.
I still honestly say no to Dewey being in the Hall, but Larussa and Baines have now opened the floodgates to legitimate questions about a player like Dwight Evans.

Two wrongs donβt make a right. Good player, seems like a good guy, but just not a HOF player.
