This may be premature by a nanosecond but, I think Mr. Gunn has officially arrived.
Prior to Guardians, I always though of him as this quirky, pseudo-mysoginistic, c-movie director. I could enjoy his work as a guilty pleasure but, there was always that moment in his early days where you had to cringe (or heave) at his insensitivity and attraction to shell-shocking violence. Who kills their teenaged, female protagonist with a gunshot wound to the head and then lingers on her blood-soaked, dislodged cranium?
In any event, the scribe behind 2004's excellent, Dawn of The Dead remake, has come a long fucking way. Marvel sure knows how to pick them. Congratulations to Troma boy.

Gunn has always been a great filmmaker. Even when the story or concept wasn't great, the filmmaking was. He has never been sexist, though.

He has matured quite a bit since 2012.
