Any still exist around where you live?
The last one closed here about 3 years ago. Explained to my kid such places and he was baffled at the concept, especially when renting a video game.

Not in my town, but in the one next to it, there is a small store that deals in DVDs. I've never gone in, but the place is still open, so they must do some kind of business.

We have a Family Video sorta near us. About 30 minutes away. It's like stepping into the past.

Last one closed up just a couple weeks ago. Once upon a time, there were three Blockbusters within 10 miles of me.

Friday nights in the mid 90s - getting a drive to Blockbuster and picking out what to rent. And that's what drove me to Netflix. Going to get the big new release that you looked forward too all week. Big new release gone. So I'd wonder around the store for an hour and rent things that I've seen 1000x or some POS that I didn't want to see. And forget to return. Netflix never failed. Send the movies back on Monday and the new discs would be there by Friday. That's why one is still here and one is not.
Has there ever been a huge company go that far up and then disappear that quick?

Even funnier is Blockbuster declining to buy Netflix. Oops.

Even funnier is Blockbuster declining to buy Netflix. Oops. Coca-cola could have bought Pepsi for a pittance in the 30's. But Coke thought Pepsi would go under during the Great Depression. Oops

There used to be a chain store that had movies, video games, toys and merchandise, comic books, and books but it closed several years back.

We still had one or two into 2015. But I think the only videos I see now are sold at the supermarket. Incredibly we still have a hobby store here. Blows me away because it has been open since around 1993 and every other one disappeared after a couple of years. I am really surprised they could keep it afloat but they have. I dont think they sell many comic books though. Diversified into board games etc.

My town's Family Video was just turned into yet another Dollar General. Marco's Pizza which shared the building with FV is of course gone too.
There was a window connecting the stores. You'd go into Marco's and order a pizza, get a ticket for a free movie rental, go next door to FV and pick out a movie with the same color coded sticker as your ticket and pick up your pizza from the window counter when you were ready.

No
Not sure when the last one closed but it must have been at some point between 2005 and 2010.

Hollywood Video and Blockbuster both closed up shop around the same time here. We had some mom and pops years before that but they could t compete against the chains.
