The highlights of her career for me were her rivalries with Trish Stratus and Melina(which might happen again if she ever returns).

There's some great matches on youtube (I like watching wrestling matches on there especially if the quality is high). WWE don't always know when they have a good thing as they are more into pre-packaging wrestlers to fit the brand, and let's face it, they've aways liked a woman who will agree to barbie doll on the E Channel when required. Another unconventional TNA legend they struggled to find a role for is Awesome Kong.

I used to see her at my local independent shows like almost 20 years ago. I think that would have been around the time she was just starting out. She fought some of her future adversaries on the independent circuit for years. Wish I could have attended those shows.
I've watched some matches from her fierce rivalry with Jillian Hall in Ohio Valley Wrestling on youtube. She also faced Gail Kim during her time working for this promotion.

Nice. Did she make an impression? I know she began as a valet but she'd already trained as a wrestler.

She did because everybody had the hots for her. She was way smaller though and looked more like a high school girl and nobody you'd look at and think she was a wrestler. Me not really being a fan of women's wrestling, I didn't think too much of her matches, but my friends were into it and everybody else was. There was buzz about her. I think she was with Joey Matthews also? I can't really remember it's kind of a blur to me.

I think she's always been a fun kind of wrestler, an entertainer. She couldn't out-muscle everybody so I think she played to her strengths.

I'd be out taking a smoke break. I guess there was a bunch of girls that made it that I saw when they first broke in. Mercedes Martinez I used to see a lot in my area in the early 2000's.

Looking at the timeline, I think Joey Matthews (Joey Mercury) sounds like a good possible fit for those years you saw Mickie James wrestle. He found succss with John Morrison (Nitro) and Melina in WWE in the mid-2000s and she then ended up having a big rivalry with Mickie James in WWE.
Joey Mercury, Melina & Nitro
I think both Mercedes Martinez and Mickie James are currently signed to WWE but I'm not sure that Vince McMahon hands them many opportunities. Maybe they are there primarily to mentor younger wrestlers in developmental.

Funny that the article doesn't mention that she's married to NWA Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis.

Funny that the article doesn't mention that she's married to NWA Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis. Yes it does. I don't think I see NWA myself though, not sure if it's available to watch for free here in U K and I'm certainly no expert on wrestling (just a regular fan with extremely limited knowledge on the subject).
From the original post :
“I’m assuming and only an assumption that she did not flip the switch like some of the other divas did. There were some issues about her that she allegedly needed to lose weight and all of these things. I want to tell you something, there’s a few unsung heroes of the divas that we signed that don’t get the credit that they deserve. That would include Mickie James by far. She’s a Hall Of Famer (ed. "she's not, or at least not yet ..."), she’s a hell of a hand. The reason you keep Mickie James types around is because they can have great matches or the best matches than some of your green women cannot have working with each other. Jackie Moore is as good as anybody we have ever signed. Nobody was any better than Jackie Moore in the ring. For all the great success that a Lita and a Trish (Stratus) had … you’ve gotta look back and say atta girl Mickie James, atta girl Jackie Moore, atta girl Ivory. There were several of those women that didn’t get the accolades that they probably should have deserved. I’m just thinking that Mickie probably wasn’t Vince’s cup of tea maybe. I thought she was phenomenal and I still do. They are lucky they have her. She’s still singing. She’s got a beautiful singing voice, she’s got a beautiful son. Her husband (Magnus) is the NWA Champion. I got a lot of time for Mickie James and her family and I just think that she’s a classic. She’s definitely a Hall Of Famer (ed. "not yet JR!"). She’s one of the few people that if they get inducted into the Hall Of Fame that I would venture back into those waters to go see her get inducted. I have so much love and respect for Mickie because of what she’s gone through and battled through. The little country girl that could and she was just trying to live her dreams. Anybody that can’t appreciate others trying to live their dreams can kiss my ass. My dimpled fat Oklahoma ass, kiss it.”

I don't even watch those Divas shows on 'E', can't stand them, though I do know Jon Moxley is with Renee Young, John Cena is with Nikki Bella and Daniel Bryan is with Brie Bella. Just never took much notice to be honest. I know Mickie James has a child with Magnus, he's from England where I'm from, and he chuckles through her recent nose surgery video.
Enjoy!

A lot of wrestling fans were unhappy about reports regarding Mickie James' sudden release from WWE. With the benefit of hindsight, it's clear the world's biggest and most successful wrestling promotion was cleaning house as the roster has been thinned down dramatically.

^ She should've never went back to WWE anyway based on how she was used. She never got the proper credit for the work she put in during the Ruthless Aggression Era and instead she was used like she was just some no name wrestler filling the time. What a waste.
Mickie James is the perfect example of WWE not really caring much about the women's division's history. The only female wrestlers from the past who ever get any big time shine are Trish, Lita, and the Bella twins.

Absolutely. If one WWE woman wrestler deserves a reasonable degree of respect for toiling across the indie circuit for years, traveling coast to coast, enduring countless nights on the road, and still bringing it night after night with a smile on her face and talent to burn in every two-bit promotion going, it's Mickie James. Just look at the standing elevation she gets on that neckbreaker in the gif I just posted today, that's pure raw talent as Booker T would say.
That's why I think wrestling fans almost to a man were disgusted by the way they treated her on the way out the door. I get the Bella Twins are big business and I've always gone to bat for Nikki Bella who's a really good wrestler who works hard at her game, but you simply do not push stars over the way they continually pushed every tom, dick and harry on the roster above Mickie. I'm a WWE fan, always will be, but their conduct in recent years suggests they could benefit from a major shake-up and shake-on down.

^ Well said. I'm sure WWE's excuse for the booking of Mickie James comes down to her age. She's older and used for helping to solidify younger up and coming wrestlers, but their wins over her mostly meant nothing because she was treated as if she meant nothing when she was on top of the women's division during the Ruthless Aggression Era, and was still just as good of a wrestler as the younger stars these days. I was excited for her return in 2017 when she started off in NXT for a match or so, and then turned up on Smackdown as a mystery woman helping out Alexa Bliss but the hype wore off quickly as she wasn't taken as seriously as I would've hoped. Throughout her entire comeback, i'd say her finest moments was her NXT debut, her match with Alexa Bliss at TLC in 2017, and her encounters with Trish Stratus which were a callback to their rivalry in 2006.
