That movie was basically a $150 million dollar present from Smith to his kid with Shyamalan working as a hired hand.

It was nowhere near that interesting to warrant all those different spinoffs. Okay as disposable forgettable viewing but that's really it.

I didn't think it was as bad as people made it out to be, but no way could it start a franchise.

I read some months in a book titled The Big Picture: The Fight for the Future of Movies by Ben Fritz that Will Smith and a team of writers went through the effort of creating a 294-page "bible". It's a shame we probably won't see it since we could use some originality right now in the movies, but Smith should have chosen a better director than M. Night Shyamalan. Jaden Smith also wasn't up to the task of carrying a film by himself.

Man he must have really wanted another Men In Black (two sequels and an animated series). I think he was really overestimating this one, particular since he was working with M. Fucking Night Shamalyan.

It should have been.
It had the wrong director.

Fucking Night Shamalyan. True, by that point people considered MNS the kiss of death before Split redeemed him (and before Glass ruined him again). Must had been a director-for-hire gig but why not go with someone he's used to like Barry Sonnenfeld?

Almost as funny as Smith thinking his talentless idiot kids would be entertaining to anyone in a non ironic way are the people who want to blame M Night because the movie is a gigantic pile of shit.

It seems like this movie was really just a vanity project for the Smiths.
