Brokeback Mountain The Handmaiden Dog Day Afternoon Rebel Without a Cause My Own Private Idaho Mulholland Dr Bound The Birdcage Philadelphia Gods and Monsters I thought about "Dog Day Afternoon", and I do love the movie, but i guess I didn't think it was "gay" enough. I liked "Bound". Jennifer Tilly can do no wrong. "Gods and Monsters" was a good movie. (Brendan Fraser! What an all-around doll!) I couldn't get into "Philadelphia" at all. "Brokeback Mountain" is done well enough, but I find it boring and bland. It is (very) effective as a sad movie. It is utterly sad, heartbreaking, but just being a really sad movie isn't enough for me. Though Heath Ledger is excellent. I never thought of "Rebel Without a Cause" as gay in any way. Can I assume you find it gay because of Sal Mineo and/or his character? I thought Sal Mineo was very effective in the underrated "Who Killed Teddy Bear?" The moroseness of Brokeback and the lack of passion in the film, a gay themed film made by straights for straights, really doesn't gel with me. Same with the cheesy Philadelphia. I don't buy Tom Hanks for one moment and he grates on me here and I don't usually mind him as an actor. Way too heavy handed. Demme dropped the ball and became a typical lefty virtue signaller here, due to the inexplicable flack he copped by some snowflakes over the Transgender thematic content of Silence Of The Lambs.

The Boys in the Band (1970) Mulholland Drive The Talented Mr. Ripley Behind The Candelabra Mysterious Skin Brokeback Mountain The Childrenβs Hour Dallas Buyers Club I Love You Philip Morris Milk Carol Torch Song Trilogy HM: The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Far from Heaven Documentaries: The Times of Harvey Milk, Capturing the Friedmans In spite of not liking the film's main character, I liked "Dallas Buyer's Club" a lot. I adored Rayon and thought that Jared Leto was stunningly good. Rayon was such a sweetheart. I find DBC a difficult watch. I have only seen once, but I don't know if I want to see it again. The acting is terrific, but I am not sold on the style of the film either.

I have listed actual subject matter, but for sensibilities, one can't go wrong with Elivra: Mistress Of The Dark- 88', many of John Waters films where gay isn't exactly at the forefront like Polyester - 82', Serial Mom - 94' and Pecker - 98'. Not to mention one of the gayest Hollywood films ever which many of the herd wouldn't click with Top Gun - 86'.
Of course, Elvira! I love the movie and its main character. I have no idea what women feel about the character. I assume - at the very least - that they find her harmless as there is something about Elvira and the way she presents her own unique brand of sexiness that is not egotistical or arrogant. Elvira is, without a doubt, absolutely sexy as all get out. And even with the over the top style and hair, etc., she is a beautiful woman. But she never takes herself too seriously. In addition to all her other appealing qualities, this would almost have to be her trump card. I do know, however, that guys - gay and straight alike - adore Elvira. And I think one big reason is because Elvira is sexual in a way that is actually very masculine. Most women are coy and use their feminine wiles to make a man become interested. Not so with Elvira! She's as direct as they come! She loves men, she loves sex and she makes no boners about it! I also think that Cassandra Peterson understands a guy's sense of humor (i.e., silliness) very well. Maybe she even relates to men better than she does to women. And I also don't believe I've ever seen a woman checking out a guy's (big) butt the way Elvira checks out Bob's. I never really thought that women were all that attracted to guys' butts. And CERTAINLY not guys with big butts! Bob was a stud! So, that part absolutely seemed gay! I also like "To Wong Foo: Thanks for everything, Julie Newmar" very, very much. It is so good-natured and sweet, with likable, warm characters in it and is often very funny. As far as I recall, I think I have only heard of male opinions regarding Elvira on here and the enjoyment of her representation of character and personality. Elvira is by no means a lady, but she is all woman and all proud of it. Yes, she makes absolutely no bones about her attraction and desire for males, nor her assets either. She will also call out the male chumps and goons when warranted, not to mention that she can see right through the fake facade of some of the other women. She is also represented as a great role model for the teens, as she doesn't judge or condescend to them either. What a breath of fresh air Elvira was for that little puritan town. I just love that picnic scene, which is ribald, without being offensive or crude. Nice little spice of horror as well, regarding the humourless evil Uncle Vinnie who is really his own worst enemy. If only he would lighten up. If I was a chick, I would want to be like Elvira and I think most guys, gay or straight, would feel the same way as well. To Wong Foo is an absolute delight. Swayze made a terrific and even beautiful woman, Snipes was just hilarious and ott and Leguizamo gave a spot on, perfect timing comic performance, that apparently frustrated Swayze to no end with all his ad-libbing, yet something that came off as natural and in the moment in the finished product. The scene where Noxeema confronts the rednecks and gets one of the dudes to apologize to the ladies, and when Chi Chi and Vida are having their standoff of verbal insults with each other are classics. I often have to replay these scenes. As mentioned before, for my money, it runs rings around Priscilla.

My 3 10/10 picks would be: 1. The Handmaiden 2. Call Me By Your Name 3. Portrait of a Lady on Fire I liked "Call Me by Your Name" better than BBM. It was not as boring and there was real sensuality in it. My friend liked Timothee in it, whereas I liked Archie better. It's nice not to fight with your friend over make believe characters. While Call Me By Your Name is very much a slow burn, I enjoyed it as well, though it didn't quite living up to my expectations that I had for it being so hyped and all. The two lead characters were very watchable though and I also prefer to watch it over BBM. It wasn't so angsty and the sensuality came through, where as BBM needed a bit more genuine passion I feel.

Smart movie.Β I felt sad for Fassbinder's character. I did, too. His movies are filled with sad people who just can't compete. I don't think Fassbinder knew how or just wasn't interested in making a light hearted movie. But I loved the piece of furniture that allowed three people to sit in, side to side. I've never seen a chair like that before.
