Wow! I wasn't aware that there IS a remake of West Side Story. It’s still in post production, expected release December 2021.

Vanishing Point - a quirky cult film of the early 70s. Do you mean... That you don't want to see the 'Vanishing Point' remake that was made in 1997, which starred Viggo Mortensen? I've seen both, and I think the original one made in 1971 is better.

Remakes of two of my favorite horror films:
Carnival of Souls (1998) House on Haunted Hill (1999)
There's a special creepy quality to low-budget B & W films which is lost in big-budget color movies.

I remember seeing the original HHH on it's first run. Real scary. And that skeleton suspended from the ceiling of the theater floating across the audience. One of William Castle's famous gimmicks!

Black Christmas - the reason the original was so effective was because of how mysterious and unknowable the killer was. A movie that gives him an extended (and stupid) backstory is not what the doctor ordered
Ghostbusters - you're a misogynist for disliking it and a cuck SJW for not. By the time it came out I wanted nothing to do with the conversation. Plus it just didn't look very funny.

Another modern remake that I see frequently praised is Scorsese’s director Oscar and Best Picture winner “The Departed.” I have written extensively about this movie’s failings before, here and on the old boards. “The Departed” is one of only three movies to have won Best Picture with just three other wins (directing, writing, editing). It is among the top six titles with the fewest wins and nominations other that Best Picture. (It’s only other nom was Wahlberg for Supporting Actor.) That smells “make-up” Oscar to me. Scorsese’s film is (like "True Grit") a scene-for-scene remake of a much superior Hong Kong film: Miu Gaan Diy (Infernal Affairs) (2002), a tight, taut crime thriller with two Hong Kong superstars leading the cast. There is nothing at all in “The Departed” that is new or creative. Anything in the American film that is praiseworthy has been brought over from the Chinese original. The Hollywood remake is lazy, sloppy film making. Scorsese fans still breathlessly rave about a particular unexpected plot twist related to Leo’s character, but fans of this Asian thriller weren’t surprised. Marty lifted it whole from “Infernal Affairs”. It is a steal. There is not anything creative on the part of the American manufacturers of “The Departed.” It is the exact same shot as in the Hong Kong original. No one connected with “The Departed” can take any credit for it. There is not a single good idea or surprise or plot twist that wasn’t taken from “Infernal Affairs”. There’s plenty more sloppiness to point out but enough for now. Forgive me for ranting. Sometimes I just can’t help myself. From where I sit, you needed no help; a righteously relevant rant with which I'm in complete accord. To your criticisms, I'd add only this: there seemed to be no reason for its existence other than to provide a marquee attraction to a half dozen high-powered U.S. star "names." I'm grateful I saw the original first.

There are plenty that I've never watched. There also are a lot of remakes from foreign films that aren't as good.
Brothers The Vanishing Vanilla Sky Diabolique Martyrs Insomnia Countless J-horror films
Two remakes that I really liked are Gaslight The Children's Hour
For me I liked them better than the original.

While the Psycho remake is no doubt going to be of limited appeal, I saw it as an interesting experiment.
I generally have no issue with remakes, and don't believe any film is "too precious" to be remade.

Wow! I wasn't aware that there IS a remake of West Side Story. Well, it’s just been pushed back due to the COVID situation. It was supposed to be a Christmas 2020 release I think.

There's a remake of All Quiet on the Western Front in the works that I might watch. It was remade in the 70s and I prefer that version to Milestone's original.

the 2016 BH was one of the worst films I have ever experienced. I'd give LADYGHOSTBUSTERS the edge over the 84 version but not by much and I wouldn't recommend either I wouldn't recommend either. There’s a surprise.

I hate to say that some directors get a break because their earlier films are so loved when I have biases of my own. Maybe I can go ahead with that if I freely acknowledge the fault in myself - which I do.

I wouldn't recommend either. There’s a surprise. I'd just assumed that most people don't rate the original very highly anymore. Even though it was a huge hit when coming out in 84. I could be wrong.
