The one movie where he's in jail.. The guards (or cops, detective) burn a cigar on his hand. Later, his mother comes and asks how he's doing, and he makes that face that says "Not bad" ostensibly so she's isn't distraught even more.
Anyone know this movie? I would guess it was made in the 90s.

I would guess it was made in the 90s. Fallen? Koteas play a guy in jail, not a detective (I just read the IMDB description of the movie)
I don't remember him being bald, either, and thought he was the lead character, and would have remembered Denzel. I'm not sure if I saw the entire thing, either.

One of the great 'that guys' of all time, he has a hell of an IMDb resume. I don't think of him as a "that guy" actor, but I understand why most people probably would.

I guess he's in that category between someone who can open a movie and 'solid character actor.'

I guess he's in that category between someone who can open a movie and 'solid character actor.' Neither was William H. Macy or Steve Buscemi. Phillip Baker Hall is more of a "that guy" actor imo. I am trying to think of the perfect example of a "that guy" actor.
