I think any coach who lost their QB/best player/captain/lynch pin etc. would be expected to lose more games than they did the season prior. Especially when they won almost every game the season prior. And if the difference between the-greatest-ever and some-guy if 5 games and just barely and surprisingly not making the playoffs, I don't think that's a colossal failure... but you've decided Belichick couldn't even coach in the XFL so it was a terrible job. ... I really wanna stop. I really don't wanna keep paying attention to this argument. Clearly, I'm weak. Oh, I'm sure you will. 1. "Some guy" made the pro bowl with better stats for the Chiefs. 2. If you're admitting Brady was the lynch pin, I'm not sure what we're arguing 3. Yeah that was some funny math in 2008, if only Belichick could've done with Cassel and a ready-made title contender, what he had done with Brady with a floundering franchise in 2001. I'm not sure why we're arguing either. I've tried to stop. Like I said; I must be weak. Matt Cassel is some guy. He had a good couple of years. That's about all. I think we could agree that he's no Tom Brady, and yet the drop off being as minor as it was I think is not proof that the coach is a brain dead moron whose never heard of professional football before. He couldn't repeat in 2008 what happened in 2001 because Cassel is not Brady. I just don't see the necessity of an all or nothing argument here. I can see your points about Belichick before Brady and his poor record. This year has also been a disappointment for him. I think all of that is fair. I just don't think you can include 2008 as any level of proof that Belichick is the worst coach in NFL history. It's possible that Brady accounted for a greater part of the equation but that Belichick also brought something to the table and that they were good for each other. And I know that you're doing your mild self parody thing and that you may be responding more to the years of Boston sports talk radio and a little of the AH Fan era of the board than any who is actually here, but nobody is saying Brady sucks, nobody thinks last week meant that his life and career were over, and nobody thinks it was all 'the system.' I'd never suggest any of those things. I just William Chuck might not have been a liability to Brady's career.

I'd never suggest any of those things. I just William Chuck might not have been a liability to Brady's career. I never made that claim, I said he isn't as important as Brady, and his record suggests strongly that he is a poor head coach. I'm not arguing as if anyone in this conversation said Brady sucks. I'm arguing that Belichick is incredibly overrated and the suggestion that it was even 50-50 to me is just plain wrong. 2008 doesn't make him the worst coach in NFL history (more hyperbole but I see your point), but I also don't see it as an argument in his favor the way others seem to. Ok if Matt Cassel is some guy, then some guy had an average season and missed the playoffs with a team built to win a championship. What an amazing job by the coach. As far as Brady is concerned, just the other day someone on this board said Brady was in 'Manning in his last year' territory because he had one bad game. That's why I made that snarky comment earlier. I'm sure the person who made the comment cares even less than you do, otherwise I wouldn't have made it. I'm not trying to get anyone riled up, just being a wise guy.

You keep mentioning the monsoon; don't both teams have to play in it? Are the Patriots amphibious? Do they gain some advantage from playing in the rain? I bet those heat-acclimated Baltimore Ravens aren't used to playing in bad conditions. Doesn't count! Sorry, Billy! Well played, Rey. Even if they end up with a winning record, they can never change the fact that they had a 2-5 start. A few months ago you said you'd be happy if they won more than 5 games - now 4-5 is a "disaster!" This must be the first time I've seen anyone prop up Garoppolo of all people for that season. What do you mean "Belichick accomplished nothing" with Garoppolo and Brisset? He only needed them for four games that season, winning three of them. You mention the shutout in week 4; what about the shutout they recorded the week prior? "Means nothing, it was only Brock Osweiler. Belichick sucks!" When Belichick wins, it's the terrible opposition, the weather, the genius of the great McDaniels. When he loses, it's a disaster! But Brisset "became a starting QB elsewhere", clearly a prodigal talent - how could Belichick not win the Super Bowl with him? Maybe he should have taken Brady out with a crowbar so he'd have the chance to accomplish more without him. We see what you're doing. We're going to end up rooting for another Patriots Super Bowl win just so we can 'win' the argument. Meanwhile, you'll be celebrating another championship for your team. Again, well played. Actually I think I said I'd be happy if they won more than 4 games, so anything from here on out is gravy. It's a disaster that I saw coming, and it's proving my argument. I can only point to their start because that's where they are now. Do you want me to make projections and complain about those? The point being you're giving credit to the defense for last night's win, I think the elements had more to do with the outcome than the defense. Yes the Patriots have to deal with the elements too, that's why I gave more credit to the guys throwing the ball and the guy drawing up the plays, neither of which are Belichick. He won 3 out of 4 games with mediocre talent and the final of those games was an embarrassment. I guess every coach that wins three straight games is great? They won four straight to start the 2002 season, and then lost four straight. They ended up going 9-7 and missing the playoffs, and that was with 'game manager' Brady. Imagine what he could've done with Garoppolo or Cassel or Brissett there. Maybe a 4-12, but it's only a five game difference, so that isn't too bad, right? And again, he could coach up that team knowing full well Brady would be back to save them no matter what happened. This season? Players are opting out and Belichick is talking about what they've done in the past to cover for his inability to get anything done now. His first six seasons as a head coach, I'm still waiting for an explanation on that record. Agreed with you on your final point. It's a win-win for me. Either Belichick falls flat on his face or I get to celebrate another title. It's made this season much more tolerable, otherwise it would be depressing hearing your GOAT coach make excuses for his failure all year. And yeah, they've already met expectations, it can only get better from here!

What a ridiculously bad throw. Foles had a wide open Miller resulting in a turnover.

What a ridiculously bad throw. Foles had a wide open Miller resulting in a turnover. Monday Night Football has it's own thread.
