Any fans of the James Bond movie "GoldenEye" starring Pierce Brosnan? How has it held up after 25 years? For many, GoldenEye is the pinnacle film of the Pierce Brosnan years for James Bond. A shame that the subsequent films didn't exactly live up to the standard of GoldenEye. This movie feels like it was written with Timothy Dalton in mind before he quit playing Bond and Brosnan took over. While I don't think it's a great film or some masterpiece, it's still a solid, memorable Bond film. Director Martin Campbell has a knack for action and there are memorable characters like Xenia, Trevelyan and Boris. Brosnan makes a good impression as Bond for his first outing as does Judi Dench as M. The only thing that really hurts the movie is the techno arrangement of the music and Bond theme which was later dropped thankfully. Don't forget about the terrific video game for the movie that came out for Nintendo 64. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: GoldenEye (1995) - 3 out of 4 stars"Brosnan's debut as 007 is a slam-bang action adventure in the best Bond tradition, with eye-popping stunts, sexy women, and international intrigue. (There are also P.C. remarks about Bond being sexist and/or an anachronism.) The crux of the story is international sabotage within Russia, and Bond's attempt to figure out who's behind it--and how to stop them before they use their stolen weapons to harm the free world. That's Minnie Driver as the Russian nightclub singer."

Great movie, and my third favorite Bond film.

I must say, Famke Janssen who starred in this movie is extremely attractive. In the 90's in my earlier days as president she came to CHAD and partied with me and boy did we ever have a good time, if you get my drift. Chad life.

I rank it as the 8 best Bond movies, and its by far the best Pierce Brosnan, Bond movie in my opinion.
GoldenEye was the first Bond movie watched.

Good Bond film. The first one I ever saw and it's the best of the Brosnan era.
Martin Cambell should direct more Bond movies.

It's grown on me over the years, but I still don't consider it the best of the Brosnan era. I don't get the hate for his second and third outings.

Goldeneye (1995), directed by Martin Campbell. In retrospect we see this is the first entry in the modern series of Bond films. Maybe it was budget or production know-how, but the expected gloss and slickness is here, a new level of action and stepped up (but harmless) violence. First Bond of the 90s, first of four with Pierce Brosnan (who had been offered the role before), and the first 007 film not based on any fiction by Ian Fleming. Someone thought long and hard about this. What do audiences want in their Bond to make each movie a big event? They brought forward the best of the Sean Connery era, swept out the Roger Moore silliness, and surmounted the fiscal constraints of Timothy Dalton's two entries to deliver a 007 entertainment that featured: - money: no expense spared
- fast cars and dangerous women just off their yachts at the casino
- the PPK
- the classic formula: Bond rescuing the damsel, penetrating the secret base and blowing it sky high
The traditional features are also modernized: MI6 offices look up to date and the new M is very tough Judi Dench, who had a long run in the role. More politically mature: she has to worry about oversight. Interesting: - great plane stunt at the beginning
- Sean Bean's posh accent
- the Stalin-era junkyard, a bit of political whimsy
Not so good: - the tired old silliness with Q's gadgets
- the tedious Russian hacker
- the traditional funny names: Xenia Onatopp
- the urban renewal chase with the tank is exciting but also ridiculous, which sort of sums up Bond anyway
Available on Blu-ray.

I remember it was pretty much Citizen Kane to me as a kid when I saw it in the theater.

I wish I liked it more, as I want to like a Brosnan Bond and this seems to be most people’s favorite, but I’ve never warmed up to it.

I liked the first of the Brosnan Bonds, GoldenEye, but not so much the rest. I felt in most Brosnan Bonds that there was a lack of memorable villains, like in "the good old days".

I still quite like it, near my top 10 or so Bonds, just not the classic it paints itself as. Simply, it's too safe for me, like coloring within all the 007 lines as a reset to glory. It's very 90's in a not tremendous way. One of the all-time cinematic nitpicks: there would never, ever, be a truck carrying such neatly stacked Perrier cans... empty Perrier cans.

It's one of my favorite Bond films of all time. Very good performances from Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean with Judi Dench and Robbie Coltrane shining in minor roles. Izabella Scorupco and Famke Janssen shined as the two Bond girls. Martin Campbell knocked it out of the park with the action sequences being so visceral. A lot of fans don't like Éric Serra's instrumental score, and the producers even had to bring John Altman to re-score the St. Petersburg tank chase scene. Personally, I don't mind Serra's score too much, although it does pale in comparison to John Barry's scores.
