Star Trek - had watched every episode, every film....and then we get three new shows, Discovery, Picard and Lower Decks. I'm into season 3 for Discovery, have seen season 1 for Picard, watched a few episodes of Lower Decks.
Rocky - had boxed set of 6 movies. Then Creed comes out. Then Creed 2.
Rambo - I did a review for this as part of a media studies qualification. There were just 3 of them at the time. Now there are 5. With a possible prequel on the way.
Jack Ryan - just 2 years. 2 fucking years after I do a review for the same media studies qualification, when there was just 3, they had the redo with Ben Affleck. Then another one with Chris Pine. Then the Amazon show with John Krasinski. Now there's a loosely connected film on the way, with Michael B Jordan playing the same guy as Willem Dafoe and Liev Schreiber.
Star Wars - I was amazed there was a prequel trilogy coming out. Then I was amazed they were doing a sequel trilogy and spinoffs. I will be less amazed at other movies. Not to mention the numerous TV shows.
Phantasm - got a boxed set of four movies. There are now 5 of them.
Friday the 13th & Nightmare on Elm Street - why would I think I'd seen them all, when they do frickin redos?
Alien - I get them all. Then they do Alien vs Predator films. Then Prometheus. Then Alien Covenant. Now there's another one coming out.
Predator - again. They keep churning one out just when you think they're done with it.
RoboCop - 3 films, cartoons, series, a remake, a possible reredo....
Bill and Ted - an Excellent Adventure, and a Bogus Journey. And now another one - Face the Music.
Mad Max - not only influential, the original three are very much faves of critics who normally turn their noses up at action flicks. Then the fourth one comes, they go absolutely nuts about it, and it wins several Oscars.
Evil Dead - another series that is surprisingly well-liked by critics who normally would snub gory horror flicks. And why not? They have style by the bucketload. Even the redo, not as well liked, is held in somewhat higher regard than you'd think. Then they do a series - and it is awesome. But it looks like things aren't over - there maybe a follow-up to both the redo, and the show.
George Romero's Living Dead series - there are remakes, there are spinoffs, there are faux sequels. But we're concentrating on the main series. I was excited when Land of the Dead came out. And I actually enjoyed it, it wasn't as good as the previous three, but it was still solid. Then he brought out another one - Diary of the Dead. Cashing in on the whole found footage thing. And then another - Survival of the Dead. Went straight to DVD in the UK, it bombed that bad. The bro did not even know it was a sequel until I showed him. But another one was planned - and we might yet see it, as Romero's son wants to do it. Road of the Dead - think Death Race 2000 with zombie drivers.
Miami Vice - a new show has been greenlit, with Vin Diesel on board as producer. I think I know what they're going for - they want something like Fast and Furious as a TV show, which would be appropriate as the director of the first movie did in fact direct an episode of the old 80s show.
Karate Kid - the original is fun enough. Second I barely remember. Third was arse. Anyone remember the one with Hilary Swank? Then there was a somewhat respectable redo. And now there's Cobra Kai - which even though I wasn't the biggest Karate Kid fan, has become an instant fave.
