Surely Bette Davis is one of my favorite actresses. She is so great at playing wacko characters. Other great performances of her in horror are "Baby Jane" and "Hush hush Sweet Charlotte". I do like Burnt Offerings though but Davis only has a small role there. The novel was the inspiration for King's The Shining. And I do see we have a lot of similar movies we love What did you think of The Anniversary (1968) from Hammer? That's one I haven't seen yet. Would you recommend it?

Well, it isn't a horror picture, but it is the movie Bette made after The Nanny. It's more or less a black comedy, done for Hammer Films, and she's front and center in almost every scene. She plays the mother from hell, who wears an eyepatch and reduces her adult male sons to lumps of jelly. Good fun! You should be able to find the DVD on Ebay.

I was surprised it was shot in black-and-white when I watched it last October (Hammer films being usually in colour) but it turned out to be one of the most thrilling, absorbing movies ever produced by the studio. A solid 10/10 from me.

That's a fun movie, and yes, Bette does completely dominate the proceedings. I have a copy of the (I assume OOP) Anchor Bay DVD.

I loved this movie, or pretty much anything with Bette Davis. Here's an interesting tidbit, Isabelle Furhman from Orphan (2009) patterned her acting after Bette Davis for Esther.

Bette does a good English accent, and the boy was a good actor. A good, creepy movie that will keep you guessing.

When I commenced watching this movie, I was surprised and a tad disappointed to find that it was filmed in black-and-white, as I'd always associated Hammer with vivid colours. My disappointment didn't last long. Within a short space of time, I found myself captivated by the story and Betty Davis' ambiguous character. It's an absolute stunner of a movie that merits a solid 10/10 from me.

I became aware of her in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie", and have been a fan ever since. I rediscovered her in prior films, from when she was quite young. She was a fine actress. Very good in THE THIRD SECRET. I heard she owns a book store around Los Angeles.
