It's going to take a while for me to look at the filmographies.

I just caught JOKER on HBO yesterday evening, so Todd Phillips springs to mind for me as a director who has improved the most.

Started with silly comedies, but finally got somewhere with "Summer with Monika"

Rob letterman. He directed Shark Tale and Monsters Vs Aliens and a shitty Gulliver’s Travels movie with Jack Black. Then he gave us Goosebumps and Detective Pikachu which were both surprisingly really good.

It's going to take a while for me to look at the filmographies. define improvement... we talking like going from small to big scale, or thematic maturation of material, or development of style etc.

Not to dismiss his prior work but since Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino has really hitting it out of the park. His skills as a both as writer and director are complemented by an impressive craftsmanship. Though it initially left a bad taste in my mouth, I’ve come to really love The Hateful Eight in all it’s slow paced glory.

Peter Farrelly went from well-received yet low-brow comedies to panned low-brow comedies to witty feel-good witty dramedy that earned him 2 Oscars.

Frederic Back only directed animated short films but you can see how much he improved from the first ones to the last.
