Any fans of "Rocky IV" starring Sylvester Stallone? How has it held after 35 years? By this point in the Rocky franchise, this film shows how repetitive and formulaic the Rocky films had become. And given just how many montages we have in the 90 minute runtime, you can see just how thin the script actually is. And while it wears its 80's heart on its sleeve and is not the best sequel in the Rocky franchise (I like III more than this one), the movie is still an entertaining sequel. For as many montages as there are, they are entertaining to watch here (the training ones in particular) just as they were in the previous films. The boxing matches are also pretty rough but entertaining to watch. Dolph Lundgren certainly created a memorable boxer with Ivan Drago. Should be interesting to see what Stallone does with his upcoming director's cut. You can see some of the footage in the video below that Stallone has been working on. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Rocky IV (1985) - 2.5 out of 4 stars"Totally artificial (and unnecessary) sequel has Rocky doin' what a man's gotta do--avenging a friend's demise and fighting for the U.S.A. (and world peace) against a superhuman Russian champ. Still, Stallone knows how to push all the right buttons, especially in a great training montage."

35 years later and I still haven't seen it. Admittedly, I was only a year old when it was first released, but you'd think I would have gotten round to catching it in the intervening decades.

The best Rocky movie and the best Rocky villain all within 90 minutes of steroid induced cheese.

The evil Russian stuff was funny. Michael Pataki especially. "Whatever he hits, he destroys!"
I think it jumped the shark especially with Apollo Creed getting worked up to fight him. If he was inspired by Mohammad Ali which one assumed, he would never have done that.
The robot stuff was awful, and the kids watching the boxing match.

Will Paulie be getting something else for his birthday?

It's was awful and naive, but that cheesiness actually made it more entertaining than I thought it would be, maybe for the wrong reasons. Undoubtedly Sylvester Stallone came up with a character that has a long longevity, through both good and bad movies.

Will Paulie be getting something else for his birthday? Doesn't he say in the movie that he wanted to get a sports car for his birthday?
