i cooked plov with my bf. inauthentic, because we used a regular pot instead of a kazan, and we used utensils instead of hands to eat. i tried cutting the fat off the pieces of beef we used but i guess i missed a spot and my bf spat it out after chewing it. my chinese parents always fed me meat with fat attached so i'm fine with eating beef fat. they would yell at me if i spat any part of their food out. beef fat is specifically added in some asian dishes like pho and it can be yummy. i don't like chicken fat though. doctors have told me to limit eating high iron foods because i absorb too much iron and getting it treated through phlebotomies isn't a priority at my young age because covid patients are more urgent, but i've had cravings for beef lately. it's too delicious to give up.

I eat as little fat as possible not because I’m a health freak but because it makes me gag.

If its an excessive and obvious piece of fat/gristle then I cut it away. If not, down the hatch it goes!

No. I have enough challenges to maintaining a proper weight without adding suet (beef fat) or shmaltz (chicken fat)* into the mix. But then I have a slight problem. I can't put the fat down the garbage disposal, because it would gum up the blades (and possibly clog the drain). So I throw it in the trash, but I feel a bit guilty about wasting what some people would consider legitimate food. But better to clog up the trash, I think, than my garbage disposal...or my arteries. *Fat from pork, lamb, or veal isn't an issue, since I avoid those meats.

I don't usually eat meat with the fat attached, but the fatty parts of steak is some of the best tasting stuff ever.

I don’t even have to contemplate it, as I don’t eat meat.

I love pork fat caramelized on the edge of chops; and the same with steaks fat.

Damn. I can’t believe these liberal assholes don’t the eat the fat. Frankly, life is too short anyway, so why fight it? Enjoy it while it lasts. Sometimes, I just eat the fat.

I was reading some of the prissy comments on this thread. Fat is delicious, it's the best part. Have these fools never heard of a well marbled steak? That's what you look for when you buy a beef cut. Without a little fat beef is tough as leather.
I know the Chinese know their food. So it makes sense as Ebony said they purposely add fat to food.
But all that being said, I do know red meat cholesterol is bad for you. So fat is a guilty pleasure!

Yes, I suppose that there is some truth to that. So by the same token, I could say that - for me - brussel sprouts, tofu and arugula amount to a kind of guilt-free hell.

Love brussel sprouts and arugala. Tofu is okay when added as a small textural component to food, and then sparingly. All things in moderation!

Depends on how much there is. If it's a miniscule amount where it's not worth taking a knife to to removing it, I will just leave it. The meat flavour drowns out the fat flavour, anyway.

I just realized something about fat: it isn't the flavo(u)r I object to so much as the texture. Mind you, if it's marbling, that's different. I love prime rib (though I don't eat it often, for financial reasons ), and it has plenty of fat blended into the meat. But eating just a chunk of pure fat ...makes me kinda queasy just to think about it. 🤢

Fat is disgusting unless it's been rendered and charred over a grill.
