I LIKE HER IN POLTERGEIST III! Yea well i like her in blowout even though noone else does!III I do. She often works with directors I like, directors Quentin Tarantino likes too. Have a listen to her thoughts on cinema on Eli Roth's podcast.
"Great directors loved working with Nancy Allen in the 1970s and 1980s. Steven Spielberg ("1941"), Robert Zemeckis ("I Wanna Hold Your Hand") and Paul Verhoeven ("Robocop") all cast her in prominent parts during that time period, but her defining work appeared in the films of Brian De Palma."
- Michael Calia, The Wall Street Journal
1973 The Last Detail Nancy - Hal Ashby 1975 Forced Entry Hitchhiker - Jim Sotos 1976 Carrie Christine "Chris" Hargensen - Brian De Palma 1978 I Wanna Hold Your Hand Pam Mitchell - Robert Zemeckis 1979 1941 Donna Stratton - Steven Spielberg 1980 Home Movies Kristina - Brian De Palma 1980 Dressed to Kill Liz Blake - Brian De Palma 1981 Blow Out Sally Bedina - Brian De Palma 1983 Strange Invaders Betty Walker - Michael Laughlin 1984 The Buddy System Carrie - Glenn Jordan 1984 Terror in the Aisles Herself - Andrew J. Kuehn 1984 The Philadelphia Experiment Allison Hayes - Stewart Raffill 1984 Not for Publication Lois Thorndyke - Paul Bartel 1986 The Gladiator Susan Neville - Abel Ferrara 1987 Sweet Revenge Jillian Grey - Mark Sobel 1987 RoboCop Officer Anne Lewis - Paul Verhoeven 1988 Poltergeist III Patricia Wilson-Gardner - Gary Sherman 1989 Limit Up Casey Falls - Richard Martini 1990 RoboCop 2 Anne Lewis - Irvin Kershner 1990 Memories of Murder Jennifer Gordon/Corey - Robert Lewis 1993 RoboCop 3 Anne Lewis - Fred Dekker 1993 Acting on Impulse Cathy Thomas - Sam Irvin 1994 The Man Who Wouldn't Die Jessie Gallardo - Bill Condon 1994 Les patriotes Catherine Pelman - Éric Rochant 1997 Against the Law Maggie Hewitt - Jim Wynorski 1997 Dusting Cliff 7 Anna Bishop - William H. I LIKE HER IN POLTERGEIST III! Yea well i like her in blowout even though no one else does!III Actually, I liked her performance in Blowout too... But... The problem is... Some people can't understand that just because the character seems bad on screen, that the actor has to be giving a terrible performance too... It can actually be quite challenging to give a terrible performance as a 'dumb blonde', on purpose.... Which is how the character was written, and what the Director wanted. If anything, she was miscast for that part... But, for some weird reason, Depalma wanted his wife to play all these prostitute type roles. She guest starred on an episode of late 1990s TV Series "The Outer Limits"... Playing a physical therapist (who was being abused by her boyfriend) and she was almost killed by a jealous android that belonged to the scientist, she was giving therapy to. I thought she was good in that role. I also loved her performance in "The Philadelphia Experiment"

You're talking about her in Verhoeven and De Palma movies. Those two are probably the worst directors I can think of for portraying female characters ie either they were being drilled into a floor or they were psychos, skanks, bullies, airheads, hookers, butch, dykes etc. I've seen a few films where Allen played characters with more heart and she was pretty good. Which movies had dyke characters? I can't remember.

Do you have similar feelings toward Melanie Griffith? I love Melanie Griffith to pieces. She may not have a lot of range, but within her range, she has given some excellent performances. She has humor and warmth and charm, and she can be very charismatic.

Verhoeven's dutch movies were excellent, although I couldn't understand why erect penises kept on creeping up in all of them. Must be a fetish? Crazy Dutch haha.

She is in She’s been a few good movies, Robocop, Dressed to Kill, Blo Out, Carrie but these movies are good in spite of Nancy Allen and would have been better with someone else Ill admit Dressed to Kill was brought down by her middling performance, I mean that role screamed someone a tad older for the role...

Is a 30 year old hooker not believable to you? I just didn't buy anything about the performance, she lacked brevity and weight to play the role, and came off almost too perky and young for it as well.

I don't think the part was written or directed for gravitas. Liz Blake is written as a breezy, ever so slightly dingy hooker with a sense of humor. Jane Fonda's Bree Daniel, on the other hand...

That's right. Thank you. De Palma and Verhoeven are two of my favorite directors. Though I like PV better when he was making movies in his home country. Yes, Verhoeven’s earlier works seemed so unabashed and unashamed in their organic sexuality. I haven’t seen any of his Dutch works in their entirety except The Fourth Man, but have seen parts. On you tube they tend to be in Dutch with no subtitles so can’t be bothered. You can find a few of his Dutch movies on youtube, including Keetje Tippel, that film where a dude comes out of nowhere with his boner in full sight and starts raping someone.
