So which rating system do you prefer to use ?
I use the 10 star rating system

I prefer the A-F scale. When there are 10 options available to express how much you enjoy or dislike a movie the 10's and 1's become too precious. I know wannabe critics that'll never give anything besides The Godfather, Seven Samurai, or Citizen Kane a 10, and I always think, why are you so hard on your entertainment? Did you like Jurassic Park, do you think Jurassic Park is as perfect as it can be, and do you watch it over and over again? Is the answer yes, okay, then it deserves your best rating. Imagine if you were back in school and your teacher gave you a B because you're smart but you're not as smart as the smartest student the teacher ever had 26 years ago.
A - Great B - Good C - Average D - Bad F - Terrible
Then add the +/- if you feel compelled to make the rating really stand out.

The IMDb rating system is more precise.

10 star here but it would be handy if IMDB allowed .5 ratings

I'm very particular and when I post, I want to be as accurate as possible.

I think I'm more honest with a 5-star system. I've found myself rarely rating anything a 4/10 or under (the movie Cats was the most recent). Minor imperfections are forgiven in my book with anything I've rated 5 out of 5 because everything else is great.

CinemaScore uses this same letter-rating system as well.

Since reading Neil Postman's Technopoly years ago I've been unable to assign scores to films. I can't quantify them. However I do informally assign films to rough categories: A: worth repeat viewings, may try to collect B: once only, but would recommend to those who like that sort of thing C: once only, would not recommend D: waste of time F: wish I had not seen it

Pretty much this for me too ! and... will I keep the tape or DVD or donate it to a thrift shop ? and how often do I re-watch the movie ? No numbers or letters !

10-star rating. There's more diversity when judging the "truly great" films from the "just good" films.
