If Sunny Deol played Rahul Mehra in Darr instead of Shahrukh Khan would Sunny still be a big star today, like he was back then?

nope Sunny has never played an out and out villain and with his personna onscreen, he could not portray evil characters. He was the macho hero. Its like saying Gary Cooper or Stallone playing out and out villains. Never gonna happen. My point though is what if Salman played Baazigar and Amir played Rahul in Darr. I think SRK would still have made an impact with Anjaam.
Back in the day villains were considered side actors to main hero who got the girl. A lead actor like SRK was taking a risk by being the guy who loses the girl and loses in a fight to the main hero. But he was in that stage of his career where he did not have too many good offers so he was just being wise than finicky and it paid off. I find Baazigar and Darr very hammy my modern standards. I find Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and Anjaam more understated as far as his performance goes.
