I'm sorry about your Dad, ravenking. I hope everything turns out well in the end. My elderly uncle was diagnosed with Covid last week as well. He's in the hospital but asymptomatic (though he has other serious health issues). His daughter is extremely ill with cancer though and she underwent a serious operation that very same week.

We have a friend who is a nurse, and despite taking all the precautions for months on end, she recently got Covid, so did her kids, her sisters, her entire family, including her mother who recently had a heart transplant and the doctors flat out said she would die if she got it. So the whole family's had it, and the nurse is testing negative now but she's still weak from it, her mom who had the heart transplant had the least symptoms of the whole family and was recovered from it within a week. There is no rhyme or reason here.

It's a crazy disease. Healthcare workers are the frontline troops in this war (and it is a war). They've suffered horrendously.

Just when I thought that 2020 couldn't get any worse...
He was hospitalised 3 weeks ago after a heart attack. They managed to stabilize his heart and everything seemed to be on the up. He was already transferred to another hospital for regeneration and then 3 days ago his roomate's Corona test came back positive and so my father had to be put in isolation too. And now the doctor has called me telling me that he has high fever and is in a critical condition.
He had just bought a new computer and he had still so many plans for the future. It's weird how quickly things can change for the worst. I'm so sorry to hear that. I pray he gets better soon. Just don't give up hope. My cousin, who had had a kidney transplant, got the virus. She was in the hospital for one night and they wanted her to stay there, but she refused. She said if she were going to die, she wanted to die in her home, surrounded by her family. It was very serious for her because she takes pills that weaken the immune system because of the transplant. She had to take oxygen at home, of course, and it took her a long time, but she is better now.

Sorry to hear about your dad, hope he pulls through all of this...talk about a double whammy. The one positive is that at least he was already in the hospital so he was able to start receiving care & treatment immediately. Sending you my positive thoughts and karma.

Sadly my father passed away 2 days ago. First it looked like he had beaten Corona and we were waiting for him to be tested negatively for the virus, but then on Monday he contacted pneumonia an he was too weak to survive that.
My mother was allowed to visit him the day before he died and it gave her quite a shock. She told me she aged ten years seeing him lying there like that. He was in such a horrible state. Emaciated (somehow he lost 12 kg while in hospital), unconscious, with all kind of tubes sticking out of his body, like in some horror movie. I'm actually glad I didn't need to see him in this humiliating state, so I can remember him the way he was before he got so frail.
It was the worst kind of death, dying lonely in some hospital, and I wish I could've spared him this horrible experience, but at least he won't have to suffer anymore, and without wanting to sound too esoterical, I hope he is in a better place now.

Oh God. It’s hard to convey much through a message-board, but I’m so, so sorry, theravenking. And your wish doesn’t seem esoteric at all—I certainly hope the same thing.

I’m crap at saying comforting things at times like this but although you and your family could not be with him he was still in your hearts and minds and I’m sure he knew that. Look after yourself.
