Since The Batman is now a 2022 movie, it managed to avoid AT&T’s recent theatrical purge, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future.

Legendary is apparently not happy about their recent decision.

There’s a reason why it got pushed back to 2022. This streaming thing has always been part of the plan. I do wish that Dune was pushed to 2022 as well or just keep it strictly in theaters in 2021.

I’m just gonna say it; I think it’s too little too late for a new Batman franchise. Movies don’t seem to have much of a future on the big screen.

I really, really hope that putting it into 2022 will mean we get a big screen experience seeing it.

Why not both theaters and streaming/on demand?
Wonder Woman is already doing that, and Warner announced all its 2021 releases will be available both in theaters and via streaming/on demand.

That’s basically what I was referring to. Okay, so people will still have the option of seeing big-screen Hollywood movies up on the big screen the same time they're on streaming/on demand services, at least for the next couple of years. Only time will tell, especially after the pandemic recedes and is hopefully over, whether theatrical releases have a future in the long term.

If COVID is still a problem in 2022 then who knows what the hell will happen with anything in this world. I mean, god damn I hope it’s not still around then!
And if it’s not, then why put a potentially billion dollar movie on streaming for free?

Where I am, the theatres are closed (not that I'd go right now if they weren't, too many people don't understand how masks work) and the internet is fast enough to check your Email- so no streaming except on your phone if you stand on top of a hill. I keep hoping stuff won't come out till I can enjoy it on a big screen- but I get that places may not be able to afford to wait that long. Guess I'll be watching a lot of 'new releases' on DVD, whenever they get to their DVD run.

Given that I live in a country where HBO Max isn't available, I certainly hope not.
I imagine it will receive some sort of cinema release, even if it's released digitally at around the same time.
