That's because one does not NEED a church, or to go to church, to worship. I have been told over and over again that Christianity, anyways, is NOT a religion, it's a relationship....with Jesus. If that is true, one can 'relationship' with Jesus at home, in the car, in a boat and from afar,
Actually, we do need a Church. In order to worship, we must receive Holy Communion. With the lockdown, we cannot partake in Holy Communion. What happens if you don't receive Holy Communion regularly? Seems to be a flaw in a relationship with God if he us unable to relate to his followers without a routine ritualistic pretending to eat the body and drink the blood of a sacrificed person.

It is His Gift to us. Christ Promised us Eternal Life, if we eat His Body and drink His Blood (Gospel according to St. John, chapter 6). And it is not pretending, it IS His Body and Blood. We receive Spiritual Nourishment from Him.

As far as religion is concerned, I could say I don't really give a rats, yet the double standards, hypocrisy and absurdity behind it does beg to questioned as to the selective reasoning behind it all.

Metaphors, singing, music, and community can all be done without the weekly indoctrination. Setting aside my indoctrination comment, why not hold your church services via Zoom? We do watch Holy Mass online, and/or on TV. However, because we cannot be physically present at Church itself, it means we cannot partake in Holy Communion (which is the whole point of Holy Mass). Why not have Holy Communion at home. The chalice, the bread, and wine were all made by humans, not Jehovah. Have your spouse give you the bread and wine. Not good enough? Take a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine and ask your priest to bless them. Put the bread in the freezer and you have at least a three-months supply of Holy Communion paraphernalia. For you, Holy Communion in church is beneficial. The church has indoctrinated you to believe that you need to do it weekly. And since it works, the church keeps doing it so you'll come back. Would Holy Communion be any different if you only did it once every five years? Be thankful you are not a Jehovah's Witness. You have been indoctrinated into believing that going to church is necessary once a week. A JW has to go to the Kingdom Hall three times a week and then spend another 12+ hours a week proselytizing.

Clu did, she just didn't want to take it on board because of rigidity and inflexibility of belief and refusal to bend thinking it won't have the same impact. Common sense and rationality gets thrown out the window.

We would still have to have the priest come to our house Ditto with all the other parishioners. Do you realize how long that would take for the priest?

Why does anyone have to come to your house? Just bring a loaf of bread and a jug of wine to the church. Put them on a pew. Back away. Let the priest bless them and then back away. Take them home and freeze the bread. You can now have Holy Communion at home for several months.
If families did this at 5 minute intervals, the whole parish could have the blood and body of Christ at home within a few days.
Or, you could be on Facetime with the priest. Hold up the bread and wine and ask the priest to bless them over the internet. I went to a funeral mass wherein the priest blessed the local Bishop as well as Pope Francis so the object being blessed need not be present.

Too complicated. What we were doing already (before the lockdown returned), was RVSP our place at Holy Mass; wear our masks (like we did in every other building we would enter); sanitize our hands; Stayed close to our own families & away from others in the pews. Because we had to now RVSP, it meant there was only a certain number of people at Mass. Some of the pews would be closed off, so that people couldn't sit in them, but, the ushers could use to collect our money, & the priests could use to give us Holy Communion. After Mass was finished, the pews would be sanitized, for the next group of parishioners could come in to attend Holy Mass.

How is my proposal (one quick blessing and it's over for months) more complicated than your proposal? You just have a lame rationalization for doing all that cleaning, parading, bending, kneeling, genuflecting, pax vobiscum, and pomp-and-circumstance. It's all part of your indoctrination. Stop complaining. Don't forget to tithe.

All the pomp and ceremony makes one feel extra special and important for the entry into the kingdom of heaven. It is all about the cultist ego in reality.

You're correct of course, but when you think about it people can get their groceries delivered to them at home. Nobody needs to leave their house ever again. We can keep everyone safe... from life itself! LOL Not everyone can get their groceries delivered. A lot of people - especially the old and the poor - do not have access to the internet at home and therefore cannot shop online at home. Additionally, a significant number of people - again disproportionately effecting the poor - do not have any sort of bank account account so are unable to conduct online transactions because of that. So many people HAVE to go to the shops to buy their food. No-one HAS to go to a special building to pray to a god that is supposedly everywhere.

Actually, we do need a Church. In order to worship, we must receive Holy Communion. With the lockdown, we cannot partake in Holy Communion. The bishop has the power to waive this requirement and handout general absolution during times of war and public emergencies. And you can do spiritual holy communion anytime. Just imagine the Eucharist in a monstrance on the altar of the church near you or historical church you like and pray. Proximity shouldn’t matter.

Because Catholics believe the Eucharist is the actual blood and body of Jesus and having a priest do it over a website means potentially anyone can then get it done if logged on. Only baptized catholic can have it though. So, this method wouldn’t work so well. I can see Eucharistic ministers taking it door to door...just like they for shut-ins now.

I'd say Sam was being a tad sarcastic regarding doing things from home so we don't need to venture out into life.

Th Catholics have so much imagination in almost all other areas, and yet they need this justification of transubstantiation IRL?
