Tommy Lee Jones in No Country For Old Men. I thought he was known more for the Fugitive? Jesus Christ! This thread is a revelation. You´re right here, The Fugitive is a very good example of an actor like Tommy Lee Jones, usually playing villains, and then casted for playing the good guy. But about Gary Oldman, The Fifth Element is a movie where he played the bad guy.

Jack Elam morphed from playing the villain into a being a comical hero .... notably in Support Your Local Sheriff / Gunfighter
Lee Marvin was often an Uber-Villain but in Cat Ballou he was the villain and hero.
Ernest Borgnine ... villain in From Here to Eternity / mild mannered hero in Marty

Tough-guy Edward G. Robinson (Happy Birthday, Eddie!) played against type as Margaret O'Brien's gentle, loving father in Our Vines Have Tender Grapes .
