Twitter blew up at the Eagles last night for...’throwing’ the game. I didn’t watch it but even if they did, that’s their right! There’s no difference between 4 wins and 5 wins other than drafting several spots higher. I know. Diehard Giants fan here, first live game 1970 at Yankee Stadium, was in the stands for 5 -6 playoff wins, including an NFC Championship and a Super Bowl win. I’m so old school, I believe you play to win regardless of the situation, end of story, it’s why the games are played in the first place. Did the Eagles tank? I don’t know. I do know this: we were in control of our playoff destiny 4 weeks ago, then went 1-3 down the stretch. So? We have no one to blame but ourselves. Beyond that, they may want to think about lottery situation for drafts in the NFL. (My cousins laugh at me for being against tanking, they’re 15 years younger than me. Times have changed, for sure). 😂

Insert world’s biggest eye roll here. I’m I concerned with Rex Ryan’s opinion. I’m sorry that the 6-10 Giants pinned all their hopes on a 4-win Eagles team. Maybe if they took care of their own business the Washington game would have been irrelevant.

I'm not concerned with anything that anybody on ESPN has to say, but... I don't think it's just Giants players complaining about it. I fully accept that the Giants aren't good enough to be a playoff team. Even just yesterday they tried to give the game away after they'd already won it... But that doesn't mean that last night wasn't a pathetic disaster that everyone should be ashamed of, because there's not really any other way to describe it. You can rest players and get other guy's reps, you can set up your roster to not have the strongest lineup, but to see a coach actively make decisions to lose on purpose in the 4th quarter of a close game is something that I don't think I've ever witnessed before. The league isn't gonna take any action or anything, and we will all just move on, but it was despicable and pathetic on every single level imaginable. Yes, the Giants only have themselves to blame, and yes the league should have known better than to put that game (or either NFC East matchup) in primetime, but that that also doesn't excuse the disgrace of Doug Pedersen's coaching yesterday. On another note; I didn't realize that Tom Rocks worked for Newsday now. No wonder he doesn't post here as often.

I'm only a half-assed Giants fan and was conflicted as I was rooting for Alex Smith and my pick for the game as well. That shouldn't have been the way to cap off the regular season.

These are the only real reasons why Pederson would have put Sudfeld in at that point:
1. Hurts is the future, didn’t want to risk a serious injury.
2. Hurts will be traded before the draft, didn’t want to risk a serious injury.
3. The Eagles wanted to draft at 6 vs 9.
All are legit reasons. They don’t owe the Giants or Cowboys shit. Handle your own business and you won’t have to depend on another team, a 4-win team at that.

It's detrimental to the sport itself to intentionally throw the game as it transpires. We all know (well, everyone except jimanchower) tanking happens in sports, but it's usually decided beforehand that the team isn't going to put itself in the best position to win the upcoming game/season. To be as blatant as Pederson was about throwing the game in the 4th quarter is what people are taking issue with. It isn't about screwing over the Giants, it's about a bad look for the NFL. Why should fans pay attention to a league where the games aren't on the up and up?

"Look, this game doesn't mean anything to us. So as not to put our better players at unnecessary risk, we'll be playing backups." Teams in the playoffs rest starters, no reason a losing team couldn't do the same thing. We'd know the Eagles as an organization weren't trying their hardest to win that game, but we'd believe the product on the field was the result of the directly involved parties' (players, coaches) best efforts. Tinkering with the lineup and making highly questionable coaching decisions toward the end of the game is a step away from your beloved WWE. People don't watch football for that.

Why not give the young kids some valuable playing experience heading into the offseason
It's the only ways players grow - get their feet wet
Same goes for the NBA - i.e. teams during garbage time - they give the 12th man on the bench an opportunity to see what they can do

Fun fact about TB per Wiki regarding Tom's rookie season -
'Brady started the season as the fourth-string quarterback, behind starter Drew Bledsoe and backups John Friesz and Michael Bishop; by season's end, he was number two on the depth chart behind Bledsoe'
So can't one argue now is the time to experiment and see what we have?
