Yesterday, my wife received a handwritten, unsolicited, one page letter that addressed her by her nickname, Mickey (Her name Michelle). It was from a Jehovah's Witness inviting her to open dialog and learn the message of the Bible. There was also a one-page printed flyer in the letter. The letter was in lieu of door-to-door canvasing. I don't know how she knew my wife's nickname.
My first thought was to write this woman and ask her why Jehovah sent two bears to maul 42 children to death (2 Kings 2: 23-24). My second thought was: Why did Jehovah create Covid-19 that has killed over one million people worldwide so far. My third and final thought was to throw the letter in the trash.
In May, the NY Times published an article entitled, "
People Would Be So Receptive Right Now, and We Can’t Knock on Doors." (google it) The quote was made by a JW because the pandemic has put a stop to the activities of one of the nation’s most visible religious groups.
I don't think "receptive" is the right word. I think "vulnerable" is more apropos. Jehovah's Witnesses want to take advantage of the situation while people are desperate. That's kind of like kick-'em-while-they're-down.
So, my question for all you JWs out there (are you listening JGS), (A) Why did Jehovah bring the death of over one million people to this world with COVID, (B) If the universe is 6000 years old, why did Jehovah wait 5800 years to bring Charles Taze Russell into this world, and (C) Why is there a need to proselytize? If Witnesses are
the greatest thing since sliced bread, wouldn't we all be beating a path to the Kingdom Hall without your nagging and coercion?
