The night before he went AWOL from the Mets, pitcher Matt Harvey was partying into the wee hours at a Meatpacking District hot spot, sources told The Post. The βDark Knightβ was celebrating a late Cinco de Mayo at 1Oak until 4 a.m. Saturday β just hours before he failed to show up for a game at Citi Field, reportedly because of a βmigraine,β sources said. pagesix.com/2017/05/08/what-matt-harvey-was-doing-the-night-before-his-suspension/Members of the New York Mets security team visited Harvey's home after he texted to inform the club he wouldn't be able to make Saturday night's game against the Miami Marlins at Citi Field. On Monday, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported there are conflicting views of the visit. Harvey reportedly believed the Mets were checking up on him after the absence, while sources close to the Mets told Heyman the team was merely making sure he was fine after not responding to messages. The 28-year-old starter answered the door in his pajamas and felt he was being "quizzed" by the security staffers about why he couldn't show up at Citi Field, according to the report. Heyman also noted the pitcher played golf earlier in the day before suffering a headache described as the "worst of his life."

I'm telling you guys - they don't care so much about the partying, but Harvey is doing cocaine like it's the 80s. The Gooden and Strawberry days are over, Matt.

looking shaky to start today... Just about to say that. What the hell happened to the Dark Knight? He looked OK in 15 when he came back from the TJ. Now he looks like Anthony Young.

Now he looks like Anthony Young. it's not drugs. it's more that pitchers are more throwers these days than pitchers and don't build up their legs to learn how to pitch when their arm isn't 100%.

I have it on pretty good authority that he's hitting the nose candy pretty freely. I'm just some guy on the internet so obviously you'll take what I say with a grain of salt, but I trust the source I got it from for whatever it's worth.

Clay Kershaw is getting them out in San Fran. Two #7 overall draft picks pitching today, Clay and Matt Harvey. the #7 pick seems to have a lot of success.
Frank Thomas Trot Nixon Prince Fielder Nick Markakis Homer Bailey Tulo Clay Kershaw Matt Harvey Aaron Nola Andrew Benentendi
Sure, there are the Dan Reichert's and Matt LaPorta's in there, but there seems to be more success with #7 than other high picks, at least in recent times.

Man, remember when Matt LaPorta was the centerpiece of the trade that brought Sabathia to the Brewers? That guy fell off a cliff.

One has nothing to do with the other. The Harvey thing goes back to last year and this doesn't come from management at all. The injuries to the pitching staff, and the entire team really, are the result of an incompetent training and medical staff that (1) fails to get them into proper game shape and (2) incomprehensibly just goes up to the players and asks "are you OK," to which the player invariably says "yes," and the existing condition is immediately exacerbated into a more serious injury. Every. Single. Time. If you know your players are hurt, you examine them. Just look at Cespedes and Cabrera from recent weeks, it is EXACTLY what I've been saying for years: both guys were clearly hurt, but do the Mets shut them down and let them get healthy? No, they just shelf them for 5 days, compromise a roster spot because they don't want to lose the players the for 10 day minimum. In each case, the injury got worse and the absence was lengthened. Hamstrings and thumb ligaments....yeah just sit for two days and you'll be fine. Fucking idiot Mets.
