Director for the Wonder Woman films. Okay. I liked the first WW film, but I was unaware who directed it. Anyway, I, like most viewers of these movies, don’t care about canon. This is not a religion. But is it then the fan meddling tying these filmmakers into knots, limiting their artist freedom out of fear of offending the fanboys and girls to the point where they can’t help but make a bad movie? You may not care about cannon, but sequels and movies made within the same "universe" need to have continuity. You can't have Superman being bulletproof in one movie then getting hurt by arrows in the next (at least not without a proper explanation). This is not about fanboys tying filmmakers into knots, it's about good storytelling. If a film is part of a larger franchise, then the directors need to make sure they're being consistent with one another.
