Was made to tag along to see this yesterday. Absolutely horrible with paper thin characters, generic played out plot and your typical CGI overload. No sense of scale in the movie which is essential for the Antman character. No real stakes, none of these characters were ever in any real danger. Kang was decent however, enjoyed the movie whenever he was on screen. It is sad that everyone's character seemed a bit thinner. Michelle Pfiefer's story really opened up, but Hope went down and Cassie didn't really go up. Hank also went down, which is a real shame because he impressed me almost as much as Paul Rudd in the first Ant-Man for bringing a lot of power to the screen. Hank's ego makes him one of the best characters. He feels like one of the MCU's biggest players lying in wait, choosing the life of non-participation in the affairs of SHIELD and the Avengers, etc.
The thinnest for me was the daughter. She had potential. The relationship between her and Scott is a high point in his story, but casually trotting out that she's got a suit too once they were in the quantum realm was unearned, in my opinion.
Something I liked about the idea of the Quantum Realm is the size of its world. I like what it says about perspective. The Quantum Realm by comparison is tiny, but so is the world we're used to compared to the TVA in Loki. The world as we know it is its own quantum realm compared to the TVA, where someone like Thanos could get manhandled by your average security guard. Each world is the biggest world everyone in it's ever known.
I also liked Kang.

They weren't 100% real sets, they used CGI to enhance Knowhere. Counter Earth was just a normal city and neighborhood, what made it stand out were the Beastials.
Organic Lab World, that sure wasn't real.
The whole thing about the Quantum Realm/Microverse is that it's supposed to look Psychedelic and not real by our standards.
Did you complain that the Dark Dimension in Dr Strange 1 was too CGI?
Surely you can see how the massive set built for Knowhere made it look better than an actor in front of a giant tv screen in Quantumania? GotG had tons of far out bizarre locations but all of them looked so much better because it wasn’t done using only the volume or green screen. A hologram is supposed to not look real, that's the point it's a projection. That village of Rebel Warriors where Ant-Man drinks the Ooze was real, but no one bothered complimenting that.

You may as well say that the Asgardians Plays "look bad".

Seriously, when the complaints become "A hologram that isn't supposed to look real doesn't look real!" then it's practically just grifting.

The part where Cassie and the Resistance Leader were using Kang's hologram device to talk to people and the complaint it wasn't "real looking" enough.

You know what really bugged me about this film ending? It played Kang warning off like a joke.
Like this is the film that supposedly sets up Kang as the new Thanos and it's ending didn't even take the character seriously.
I seriously hate this fucking movie.

I’ll say this; I don’t understand all the people who think the original ending of Scott and Cassie getting trapped in the Quantum Realm would’ve been better than what we got. Scott getting trapped in the Quantum Realm already happened in the last movie. We didn’t need a repeat of that.

I didn't think the post-credit scene was supposed to be funny. Whatever they were going for may not have worked, but it wasn't supposed to be a joke.

It happens right before the movie ends where Scott is thinking about Kang's warning before he meets up with Cassie at the restaurant. They played Scott's reaction as a joke, because that's who he is. But they showed the threat was very real in the post-credit. At the end of the day, you made the best observation on this movie a while back. It was the wrong movie to introduce Kang (on the big screen), period. Ant-Man movies have always been goofy fun, but goofy fun isn't the right place to introduce the next big bad.

Why didn’t they use F4 to introduce Kang? Would’ve been perfect. Reed is actually his ancestor.
