Great use of the, "But I have black friends," argument. They hired black people and continued using a racist logo (of a completely different ethnicity, so what does hiring blacks prove?) for decades afterward. Do you understand racism affects other minorities, not just black people? Of course you don't, who am I kidding. You're the stereotypical out of touch conservative white guy. "Nothing is racist because it was never racist before. Why are people always crying racism these days? Social issues aren't really problems if they don't affect me." The rest of us will be moving on to a better world, you can keep complaining about how in the good old days, nobody spoke out about deeply imbedded cultural problems. And good luck with the aliens. A team that actually broke down racial barriers is deemed a "racist organization" because of a logo that was considered pretty harmless for decades. And even though said team is now changing the logo, they are still a "racist organization". And in case anyone else hasn't been given enough examples of your "I'm a progressive who's gonna change your world" bullshit, you actually state that the word Redskin is as awful as the N-word. Maybe the dumbest, and insensitive, thing ever said on this forum. Keep fighting the good fight, Ray Ray. Maybe eventually the world will be the place you think it should be, though basic human nature says probably not. And for the record, once again, I can safely bet everything I've ever owned that I have had more interactions, friendships, and arguments with blacks, Hispanics, Indians, etc than you ever had in your lifetime. How can you look at our history and deny progress has been made, that some things that were once deemed acceptable no longer are? How dense are you? You don't think Redskin is as bad as the N word because nobody ever told you it was. You know how they don't show some of those old cartoons with negative racial connotations anymore (no doubt another thing you complain about)? Why do you think that is? And if those are deemed unacceptable (have been for a while now), how did it take this long for the Indians to drop that ridiculous logo? Why is it inappropriate for one race and not the other? Why don't they have teams called the Blacks, the Asians, the Hispanics? Clearly I do have to explain this stuff to you. I never said I was a "progressive who was gonna change the world," I picked the wrong outlet for that, don't you think? I'm just a guy expressing his opinion on a sports message board of all places. Are you expecting to change the world in this conversation? We're headed in the right direction, which is why you're so pissed off. Last year when this conversation came up, I would've been on this board asking why these team names are acceptable, now I no longer have to. Don't worry, I'll keep expressing my opinion, and progress will happen whether either of us affect it or not. You just keep spouting government conspiracies and social inequality denial, and complaining about content warnings to your heart's content; see where that gets you. I seriously can’t believe Spiders is leading. I really hope they don’t actually go with that. Agreed.... 'spiders' sounds like a minor league name. My local minor league baseball team is called 'The Skeeters' which imo, is an unbelievably bad name. |

Tell you what, seeing how you have so many more friends and acquaintances of color than I do, why don't you go up to one of your Native American friends and call him a Redskin, then go up to one of your many black friends and call him the N-word, and see if there is any difference in the reaction you get. Beyond stupid..... I notice now that one of your new tactics when you're being called out for your bullshit is to say basically "what should it matter what I think, this is just an internet chat board?". And I guess it's possible that by the time you were 8, you dealt with folks of all different ethnicities more than I have in 50 years, but that would also mean that Massachusetts has changed a WHOLE LOT since the time that I lived close by. Either that, or you were brought up somewhere else and I'm not aware of that (my fault). Or you're just lying (your fault). |
