The Indians were the first American League team to sign a black player. I could be wrong, but also the first black manager in baseball was Frank Robinson.....for the Cleveland Indians. You're actually on to something, they could go by the old timey name "Americans" ( as in AL ) which would provide a nice complement to the Washington "Nationals" ( as in NL )

* Lakers (since Cleveland actually has lakes, Great ones in fact)
* Crows (don't see it - - too close to Ravens, and Cleveland despises them)
* Wild Things (ties both to the movie but also rock and roll)
