I finally watched it expecting a legit horror film maybe something similar to Salem’s Lot and was shocked that this was a flat out comedy that focuses on a bunch of kids and not Sutherland and Patric. Not that it was bad (me and my friend were laughing throughout) but I wonder why this categorized as horror when this is at least comedy horror, if not flat out comedy

Ehhh... not really. It's one of those weird 80s flicks that mishmashes drama, romance, comedy, and horror.

It’s categorized as comedy and horror.

It is a horror-comedy and it is more horror than comedy imo.

It’s categorized as such. I know it’s got this big following but I never got into it. Kiefer Sutherland is fun as the villain though.

I never found it all that scary, but it's definitely a fun ride the whole way through. I guess if you're looking for straight up horror, you might be disappointed, but I still think it's a very good film.
Of course I may be biased, I live in Santa Cruz where it was filmed.

Some towns are lucky just to have one serial killer in a 50 year span, Santa Cruz had about 4 different ones for a few years back then. 😎👍🗡🔪👍

I think it qualifies as horror comedy.

Any movie with a buff, oiled up saxophone player is most surely going to be comedy. Even before the internet and reading comments on the old imdb I always thought that was hilarious.
That and the line "Death by stereo!". Oh yeah, Corey Haim's awesome Rob Lowe poster in his room.

Yes which I thought for the most part was pretty lame I rewatched Tremors recently. Now that’s a great horror comedy. Lost Boys also was pretty entertaining but it was definitely for the lost part a kids adventure comedy and not a horror film like I was expecting

Well I always found The Lost Boys themselves laughable to look at

A fellow native! I was born in Santa Cruz. I don't live there now though. Lost Boys always warms my heart when I see the old country. I heard Boulder Creek got burned up in the fires, is that true? I used to live in those mountains.

A classic. I think you have to have memories of the 80's to really appreciate this one. This was when vampires were the bad guys and big hair was everything. My bestie and I watched it continuously as kids.

Maybe it's right, a comedy with horror elements, or as a horror movie with humor.
In olden days comedy with horror, worked best when the threat acted seriously.
It worked here, as it did in the first Fright Night movie, the threat is "real".
Knowing that thoughts about The Lost Boys is divided, but I'm one of those who enjoyed it, not great, but enjoyable.

Lots of folks in Bonny Doon lost their homes as well. I live in Ben Lomond, the town pretty much survived intact. Definitely a tough couple of weeks, but those firefighters kick serious ass.
