A pandemic movie during a pandemic and you wonder why it's getting mixed reviews.

A pandemic movie during a pandemic and you wonder why it's getting mixed reviews. That was exactly my thought. Also I never liked the original miniseries either. I never read the book, but have to believe it’s better.

Just read the book, it's better than any version that's ever been filmed.

Few of King's stories translate well to the big screen. If they want to actually do it right it needs to be an outright cable TV series, same with The Dark Tower books.

Haven't King based movies always been pretty hit or miss? In fact if I were to take all the King movies and compare the ratings on IMDB, I get the feeling there would be more movies under a 7.00 then over.

I’d say there are quite a few good ones and the bad ones tend to be based on bad books

Definitely in my top 2 or 3 Stephen King novels

Definitely in my top 2 or 3 Stephen King novels In the beginning, it's too cool. No matter what's happening, no matter how off course, you randomly hear people coughing. King calls Captain Trips "the most effective chain letter ever invested".
Other than The Dark Tower
The Shining It The Stand Doctor Sleep Pet Sematary

I'm a sucker for a good ghost story, and I thought Bag Of Bones nailed that subgenre, in addition to The Shining.

So it took me a while to warm to the novel. I still love the movie but the book is much better. Nice to see why Jack loses his mind, not just a three second shot of Nicholson staring into space. The Grady Girls were a nice touch. Kubrick souldn't film one of the novel's big scare scenes, the Topiary animals, so he needed another. Those creepy little snots. One touch the book did that was a huge improvement, the axe over the roque mallet. That shiny axe was what sold me on the original trailer

One of my favorite films, but the topiary animals were the scariest part of the book for me!

They start out now in the middle after the group reaches Colorado rather than the Campion starting the epidemic. Knowing how CBS messed up Under the adobe, I don't have high hopes for this version.

One of my favorite films, but the topiary animals were the scariest part of the book for me! Love how it starts with the snow plopping slowly off the animals. An innocent winter thing...
Also love how the elevator just started running in the middle of the night. Full of confetti and party favors (instead of blood). UNMASK UNMASK!!

Your list is almost exactly mine, except I would slip Salem's Lot in instead of Doctor Sleep, which I admit I haven't read yet. I would also put Pet Sematary #1, that's my favorite. Still haven't done a good movie for it, wish they would stop trying at this point.

Does that include The Dark Tower?

Never read any of the Dark Tower books. Someday probably.

Never read any of the Dark Tower books. Someday probably. The ending. Lots of people hated it but it knocked my socks off. I'm usually good at seeing how things end (I aced The Sixth Sense, Murder on the Orient Express, many other) but I never ever seen how TDT ended. My wife seen me sitting in the chair, book on the floor and my jaw wide open and repeating, over and over "Holy Fuck."
And maybe my favorite line in any novel
The Man in Black fled across the desert and the Gunslinger followed
