This could be a traumatic evening for Arteta. Now that Burnley have woken up and will surely climb to a mid-table position, the Gunners are in a perilous position. The others, currently in the EPL basement may not be great football teams but they have something that the Gunners appear to lack. A fighting spirit. It's time to put aside questions of style and do whatever it takes to get results, a la WBA who have turned to a scrapper in Fat Sam for help. I disagree with calls for the return of Ozil. He's not one to put himself about. Captain Pierre A has to show the way

I should point out that this is an EFL Cup match not an EPL league match So important a statement you had to post it twice A heavy defeat could spell the end for M.A., yet in the cups The Arse tend to find something extra. I'm looking forward to watching it.

Aubameyang is out injured. Arsenal are well fucked unless City put out kids.

Huh? No post match comment yet? Anyway, I didn't see it but from what I gather it was due in part to keeper and defensive schoolboy errors. Not that that helps but I believe Arsenal were quite in it for a while. Dreadful scoreline, Arteta now odds on for next to go (8/11 usual bookie) and the usual frenzy from the Twatterites. But wait, Aubemeyang is probably back for Boxing Day and on Boxing Day anything freaky can happen especially when Chelsea is involved.
And what, again, is the position of Ozil? I suppose it's now too far gone to be of consequence. But I've never seen a situation like it. Who was it at Chelsea? Bogart. Bogarde him. He came in from Barca under Vialli's reign, Vialli got sacked a week later for Raneiri and Bogarde was on a 4 year contract worth about 50,000 a week, something like that. Not wanted by Raneiri, he appeared in 12 games in 4 years (1 of those in a 3 year period) refusing a transfer convinced no other club would match his Chelsea salary. So he spent four years on the bench, turned up for training, did all the things expected of him in his contract (except actually play) and happily collected his 50 bags each week.
Bogarde, like Ozil, made himself available, was constantly rejected and made no bones about picking up his wages. His famous words on the subject were something like he might be the worst buy in England but he did not care, money is money. The fact that several clubs wanted him on loan and were refused by Bogarde because of a 70% cap on his wages perhaps says something about greed or maybe it just says Chelsea should have stumped up the 30% and have him the hell out somewhere else.
But not Bogarde, he wanted his full whack and if sitting on his ass was the only way of getting it, so be it. No club wanted him when finally he left Chelsea and he retired a few months later to open a string of soccer-themed massage parlours where the girl of your choice sported your team's colours (singing of club anthem extra)
I don't know how this equates with Ozil. The wages are a lot different and the true reasons for disaffection in Ozil's case are more hidden than Bogarde's but there are startling similarities in attitude - from clubs and players.
Anyway, Arsenal to see off Chelsea on Boxing Day. Got a bad feeling.
edit : okay, that bit about the massage parlours isn't true...the girls don't sing.

Yeah City had a lot of the ball but they do that against everyone anyway. Arsenal showed real character getting back to 1-1 as they looked out of it. Martinelli is a little feckin gem, he really did look up for it until the injury. Hopefully nothing serious as I think he can make such a difference for them. To further highlight this 75 mil Pepe came on and looked an amateur compared to the kid he replaced. All in all I do think Arsenal have shown signs of a bit of fight both here and against Everton. As usual in these positions when it rains it pours and they haven't had their luck of late. But luck is fickle and I think if it changes slightly there is a sliver of hope. Huge test against Chelsea, which I do not expect them to get a result of any kind from, but a fighting performance there and then there's two games they HAVE to win. If they do not then I'll really start to get scared. As for City, they did what they do. I think they look like they have turned a corner though in the last few games and will no doubt be the only real challengers Liverpool have for the title again. I don't expect them to do it though. Liverpool look in the groove now and no one in the league looks equipped to stop them.

I think there are a few teams who are equipped to deal with Liverpool. There is many a fine player at Man City, Spurs, Leicester, Man U, Chelsea and, yes, Everton. Unfortunately equipment has to be deployed to near-maximum effect, something Liverpool is doing. You can have the best climbing equipment available to scale a mountain but if you don't know which hook goes on what cleft or whatever you're getting nowhere. Yes, I think Arsenal will turn it around, though.
