But if other streaming companies are making money, all Netflix has to do is hire away one of those financial managers. Or as, is so often the case, Netfilx could just sell out to Amazon, retire, and go buy an island like the guy who started Federal Express.

Well, Iβm not business savvy at all so Iβll admit I could be wrong, but their strategy seems unsustainable. They borrow loads of money then manage to make a good enough return to earn a profit. Can they keep up that level of return with so much new competition? Maybe, but I doubt it lasts long. And god I hope they donβt sell to Amzn. I hate that company.

The big evil chain is always deposed by the next big evil chain. Mom and pop stores were driven out by chains, they in turn were driven out by superstores, now superstores are driven out by Amazon. Next comes something in ten years to drive out Amazon. Itβs a cycle that never ends. Netflix is not immune to it.

I have an Amazon Firestick. And I order from Amazon.com. But competion is good for the consumer. I think anti monopoly (antitrust) laws will protect Netflix from Amazon, if they choose to stay independent.

Sorry your year was so bad. Mine was difficult. But nothing like the catastrophe descibed in this movie. You really need to understand what a sense of humour and a joke is because I'm definitely not going to hold your hand throughout that process. I must have misread your post. Sorry.

Pretty much. Although I think the book was more about two people (the old man and the woman on the ship) finally learning how to love someone else. (Not each other.) The book sounds good, actually, kinda like Cormac McCarthy's The Road. I liked that movie though. I haven't read the book Midnight Sky, but I have read The Road and seen the film that was made about it and I absolutely loved both book and film. Midnight Sky was rubbish in comparison.

What a strange question. I think youβd be surprised by the amount of people who like depressing movies. It would be boring if all movies were uplifting. First of all, I don't like being depressed. I realize depression is a part of life. But real life is depressing enough. I don't want more depression from a movie. Two, it would be one thing if this movie made sense. But it doesn't. People are getting depressed just because they like being depressed? Many movies and TV shows are melodramatic just for the sake of drama. Like soap operas, "The Real Housewives of Wherever" franchise, "Away", and "Another Life". I personally hate movies and TV shows like that. Seems pointless and stupid. I'll take your word for it that some people like being depressed. But that doesn't make any sense to me. Away is an example of yet another sci-fi failure. It could have been so interesting if it hadn't been made into a soap opera; just like Under the Dome should have been re-named soap opera Under the Dome, Away should be re-named soap opera Away from home.

I agree. "Away" and "Another Life" are not really science fiction. They are just soap operas in outer space. This movie "The Midnight Sky" is just a personal melodrama that takes place in the future. I never saw "Under the Dome". The people who like these shows and movies don't seem honest or articulate enough to say, "Yeah, they really aren't science fiction. They are just melodramas with a science fiction premise." The sellers, producers and advertisers really shouldn't be classifying them as science fiction. The result is a large portion of the viewers are angry because they were only attracted to those productions because they wanted science fiction. They feel cheated and misled. The Amazon show "Hanna" is the same thing. It started out as an action show. And ended up just being a "teenage angst/coming of age" melodrama. In my opinion, this is Hollywood pandering to the lowest common denominator --- the "Jerry Springer/The Real Housewives of Wherever" crowd that just likes childish melodrama where people start trouble (usually just personality conflict) for the sake of shock and awe. The 10 to 30 year old crowd has long been the biggest target audience of Hollywood because they are more likely to buy TV shows, movies, music, etc. And the largest portion of that audience is relatively not educated or mature. Leaving older, more educated people with nothing but childish and stupid crap to watch. If you like trash TV, that's fine. But don't advertise it as science fiction.

I'm talking about THIS MOVIE, and movies and TV shows like this, that classify themselves as science fiction. When really they are just soap operas.

I'm sick of all these shows that have such good premise turning into either teen or YA rubbish.

Recently, a relative of mine gave me a gift on iTunes for all four little seasons and one extra show of the Sherlock Holmes TV series on the BBC.
The gift has 13 90-minute episodes. I've watched 10 of them so far (after starting about five days ago, I think).
Some of it is pretty bizarre, but overall, I am really enjoying the personalities of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
