Was it turbo charged? I don't get it. I've gone 10 floors in about 7 seconds before and no one felt the need to call it a "turbo lift".

The entry for Turbolift on Memory Alpha doesn't indicate the origin of the name. The "turbo" was probably added that so it would sound futuristic. Much like adding the "quadro-" prefix to Quadrotriticale to indicate it was the future version of Triticale. P.S. Fans of Star Trek will probably enjoy the content of the IMDB v2.1 Movie Quotes board, where we have "trekked" over 320 movies to date.

Just remember if you want to allow holodeck characters to walk around, you need to decouple the Heisenberg Compensators..

That's what James Moriarty wants you to think. It's funny I have only seen that episode once when it premiered but remember it so vividly. Even the ending with the "maybe we are all inside a holographic universe and sitting on a desk inside a portable computer drive.."

Thats poor writing. Prpbanly all lifts in that time were superfast so why overcompensate in the name?

Well, it wasn't just an elevator... It went sideways too...
So calling it a "lift", like some people do, for elevators, would not be quite as accurate, However...
It may be a combination of:
1.) The old saying that Hitchhikers hear: "Can I give you a LIFT?" AKA a RIDE...
2.) Since the "Lifts" on star trek could go in multiple directions and take you to multiple locations on the ship... it was probably considered to be an advanced elevator, and needed some special adjective to describe that function... and someone at some point thought the word "Turbo" sounded cool, and it stuck...
So "Turbo 'Ride'", still became "Turbo Lift", because they still look like elevators and as an homage to the old technology...
Who knows, maybe buildings on Earth, still have regular Elevator/Lifts as well... And perhaps Turbo was added to distinguish between the two methods of transport.
Or maybe not... Who knows...
Just putting in My Two Cents worth of an opinion.
